1) Stage 1 noise limits for acoustical changes for helicopters are as follows*
(i) $or ta+eoff, fl'over, and approach calculated noise levels, the noise levels of each Stage 1
helicopter that eceed the Stage 2 noise limits plus 2 -".d/ ma' not, after a change in t'pe design,
eceed the noise levels created prior to the change in t'pe design
(ii) $or ta+eoff, fl'over, and approach calculated noise levels, the noise levels of each Stage 1helicopter that do not eceed the Stage 2 noise limits plus 2 -".d/ ma' not, after the change in t'pe
design, eceed the Stage 2 noise limits plus 2 -".d/
(2) Stage 2 noise limits are as follows*
(i) For takeoff calculated noise levels10 -".d/ for maimum ta+eoff weights of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, reduced b' 301 -".d/ per halving of the weight down to -".d/, after which
the limit is constant
(ii) For flyover calculated noise levels10 -".d/ for maimum weights of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, reduced b' 301 -".d/ per halving of the weight down to -".d/, after which
the limit is constant
(iii) For approach calculated noise levels110 -".d/ for maimum weights of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, reduced b' 301 -".d/ per halving of the weight down to 0 -".d/, after which
the limit is constant
(3) Stage 3 noise limits are as follows*
(i) $or ta+eoff$or a helicopter having a maimum certificated ta+eoff weight of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, the noise limit is 106 -".d/, which decreases linearl' with the logarithm of the
helicopter weight (mass) at a rate of 30 -".d/ per halving of the weight (mass) down to 6 -".d/,
after which the limit is constant
(ii) $or fl'over$or a helicopter having a maimum certificated ta+eoff weight of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, the noise limit is 10 -".d/, which decreases linearl' with the logarithm of the
helicopter weight (mass) at a rate of 30 -".d/ per halving of the weight (mass) down to -".d/,
after which the limit is constant
(iii) $or approach$or a helicopter having a maimum certificated ta+eoff weight of 1#6,3#0 pounds
(0,000 +g) or more, the noise limit is 10 -".d/, which decreases linearl' with the logarithm of the
helicopter weight (mass) at a rate of 30 -".d/ per halving of the weight (mass) down to -".d/,
after which the limit is constant
(b) Tradeoffs. -cept to the etent limited under 3611(b) of this part, the noise limits prescribed in
paragraph (a) of this section ma' be eceeded b' one or two of the ta+eoff, fl'over, or approachcalculated noise levels determined under section 436203 of this appendi if
(1) 5he sum of the eceedances is not greater than -".d/
(2) .o eceedance is greater than 3 -".d/ and
(3) 5he eceedances are completel' offset b' reduction in the other re7uired calculated noise levels
