Select one of the following and write a paragraph about it.
• Can you think of a situation when people act jealously and meanly when something good happens to someone else? Explain.
• Can you think of a situation when people are never satisfied with the simple joys of life? Explain.
• Can you think of a situation when people always claim to know what should be done but never risk anything to do it? Explain.
Terms to Know
• FABLE: a brief story in prose or verse that teaches a moral or gives a practical lesson about how to get along in life
• MORAL: the lesson about what to do, or not to do, to succeed in life
• AESOP: famous Greek fable writer who lived more than 2,500 years ago
Characteristics of Fables
• Characters are usually animals who are personified (act like humans)
• 3 purposes of fables– To entertain (by having animals talk)– To inform (by teaching lessons)– To influence/persuade people to change their
behavior
