Sometimes it’s good to crop a photo because it didn’t turn out as expected, or it needs a new angle

Benefits of cropping
• gain more detail• gain more impact• tidy up photo• cut unwanted parts• change the composition
Problems whencropping
• focus is not perfect• loss of resolution• poor quality to enlarge• lose ‘bigger picture’
e.g. the top photo was originally only 1600x1200 pixels (taken on 2.1 mega-pixel camera, 1999, BTW) – the cropped image would not enlarge much beyond 7x5 inches for printing
