DUE TO THE COVID-19 GUIDELINES, ALL GTARMC ACTIVITIES ARE ON HOLD – WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE MAY RESUME. The current restrictions expire on May 28 but we do not know what future policies will be in place then. Things like gathering sizes allowed and social distancing recommendations will dictate what the club will look like in the next few months. If we are able to meet in June, it has been suggested that we have a regular program style meeting format instead of the annual fundraiser silent auction to get back into the swing of things.

Upcoming Field Trip Planning Kevin Gauthier and others have presented the following possible field trips for the remainder of 2020. More information and sign-up sheets will be available at our monthly meetings when they resume. The following are subject to change if Covid-19 guidelines are extended past May 28. June – Meautawaka Gravel Pit near Cadillac and the LaFarge Limestone Quarry in Alpena July 18 – Kid’s Day at Korner Gem in Traverse City from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. September 12ish to 19ish – Keweenaw Copper Mine rockhounding
Page 2 I am including the following item again this month in case you did not get a chance to read it last month. Speaking of field trips, when we are able to travel freely again, on your next trip down US-127 or US-10, stop at the Clare Rest Area / Welcome Center. We stopped in early March and in the Welcome Center room, we discovered several scale models of various Michigan locations. The really fascinating part of them is that the director of the Welcome Center created these on her own time and at her own expense and they are done very well. Our clear favorite is a model of the Quincy #2 Copper Mine that sits of the top of the hill in Hancock Michigan. It has a cutaway portion to depict some of the underground levels of the mine. Take a look at the photos below and make sure to take a look the next time you are in the Clare area.

CABBERS TAKE NOTE Sterling Smith mentioned this at the January meeting. “Here is a list of potential people to sell cabochon stones to. At the time I spoke to them they were open to having cutters send them pictures of finished stones
Page 4 with size of the stone and pricing. These may or may not pan out for sales but a good lead is better than none.

The above contact list will be included in each newsletter so that you know who to contact for various items. Anyone that has not paid their 2020 membership dues are now not eligible to
take classes or go on field trips until their membership is renewed. Below is a fun little page for a little indoor time. This would be fun for all but especially fun for kids or grandkids. It is a dot to dot picture courtesy of Diamond Dan Publications. www.diamonddanpublications.net
The company gave the club a free one year subscription to the “Mini-Miner Monthly”. I will be including some items from this publication in the coming months and Jenny may be using some things on the Facebook Page as well. Enjoy!
