Facilities/Maintenance: Responsible for general supervision, coordination and/or implementation of regular maintenance, repairs and miscellaneous care of park buildings, grounds and equipment to ensure efficient and safe park operations in accordance with established organizational standards. Develops long range plans to ensure adequate maintenance and replacement program for all park system facilities Provides technical consultation to park district staff on specific facilities problems. Manages facilities related contracts including building refurbishments and repairs, cleaning, security Accounts for tools, materials and supply inventory, and is responsible for ordering any supplies. Safety: Assumes responsibilities for the security of all operations equipment and vehicles. Maintains, monitors and updates security equipment. Responsible for development (as necessary), coordination and implementation of safety related matters for facilities and personnel, such as staff training including First Aid and CPR. As scheduled, routinely conducts and maintains records of safety inventories and checklists. Conducts routine inspections of staff, equipment and uniforms to ensure proper wear and safety. Performs occupational, visitor and environmental safety inspections and maintains records of same. Performs playground safety audits and inspections within park district, and for county and municipal parks as requested. Schedules and supervises Sheriff Deputy staff. Insures incident reports and accident reports are completed, filed and retained according to policy. Acts as liaison between park district and local law enforcement and fire department for emergencies and programming purposes. Responds to emergencies on park district properties. Maintains all MSDS and OSHA records and ensures compliance with policies regarding these safety protocols.

Administration: Assists with budgeting and purchasing by proficient accurate projections of the costs of time and

/or materials, equipment and small capital improvements. Develops budget requests, monitors expenditures according to budget

allocations/appropriations, and recommends and/or initiates cost-saving measures. Participates in long and short-term planning and policy/procedure development within the park

district. Writes and files reports, as required by park district policies, and requires appropriate staff to do

so. Takes action on such information according to State law, park district policies and instructions.

Supervision:

Works with Visitors’ Services Manager for the interviewing and hiring of all natural resources staff.

Supervises full-time, seasonal, intern and volunteer facilities staff and performs related management tasks such as scheduling, assigning duties and determining priorities. Occasionally supervises other staff members, volunteers, and contract employees as assigned.

Evaluates full-time, part-time and seasonal reports twice during annual service period. Follows appropriate disciplinary action procedures as necessary.

Trains staff members, interns and volunteers concerning equipment operation and maintenance.

Other: Coordinates with Natural Resources and Visitors Services Managers to assist with occasional

natural resource/programming projects as needed. Updates and enhances knowledge by continuing education for professional growth, attends

relevant conferences, seminars and certification programs. Ensures staff participates in additional training as permitted by the Training Budget.

Works flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays, for a minimum of 40 hours weekly with the possibility of more hours depending on workload.

Prepares project tracking and annual reports pertaining to the facilities department. Attends staff and leadership team meetings.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Management, Natural Resources,

Wildlife Management, Conservation, or a related field and three years at a supervisory level or 7 years of equivalent work experience and three years at a supervisory level in a governmental park and recreation agency.

Demonstrated management skills including communication, problem solving, visioning, participative management style, collaboration, leadership, and decision making to analyze diverse facts, develop clear and concise reports and recommendations.

Experience in and working knowledge of common practices of general park maintenance, grounds keeping, landscaping, conservation land management and stewardship activities and equipment.

Competent knowledge of local ordinances and Olander Park System rules, regulations and policies.

Competent knowledge of federal statutes pertaining to the civil rights of all members of the public.

Available for regular duties as scheduled in andvance and/or maintenance emergencies Ohio Pesticide Applicator’s License (must acquire within one year of hire and maintained

throughout employment.) Certified Playground Safety Inspector (must acquire within one year of hire and maintained

throughout employment.) Valid training in CPR, Standard First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens at the time of employment

or within the introductory period and thereafter. Ability to work around various outdoor contaminants, such as pesticides, herbicides, and

airborne and plant allergens. Ability to communicate clearly in concisely, both orally and in writing, and conduct training

sessions.

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record allowing insurability by the park district’s current vehicle insurance carrier under existing coverage provisions at the time of employment and thereafter. Candidates for employment may not have more than 4 total points (or equivalent penalty) issued by a recognized licensing authority for driving-related violations on their driving record at the time of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to be able to move or travel to various work locations; and the ability to remain in a stationary position, and move weights up to 50 pounds. The ability to work in a cold/hot environment with proper protection for sustained periods of time. Ability to perform moderate physical actions while training and working.
