General Information

Mission Statement Ogeechee Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, is a public institution of higher learning that contributes to economic, educational, and community development by providing quality technical education and services, adult literacy education, continuing education, and customized business and industry workforce training to the citizens of the communities it serves.

Highlights in the History of Ogeechee Technical College

1986 Legislature established Ogeechee Technical Institute.

1988 Dr. Robert C. Ernst appointed as president.

1989 First program, Practical Nursing diploma, offered with 25 students enrolled.

1990 Campus opened with new classroom building.

First class graduates as OTC awards eleven Practical Nursing diplomas.

1991 Eight new diplomas added to program offerings.

1993 Surpassed 500 enrollment mark with 563 students during Fall quarter.

1994 Stephen A. Deraney appointed as president.

Added Technical Certificates of Credit to program offerings.

1995 Reached enrollment mark with 1,000 students during Fall quarter.

1999 John Groover represented Ogeechee Tech as the winner of the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction for the state of Georgia.

1999 Opened Health Science, Child Enrichment Center, and Horticulture buildings.

Opened Screven County Learning Center in Sylvania.

2000 First Associate of Applied Technology degree program, Industrial Manufacturing Technology, offered.

Ogeechee Technical Institute became Ogeechee Technical College.

First Associate of Applied Technology degree awarded (Early Childhood Care & Education).

2001 Surpassed 2,000 enrollment mark with 2,012 students during Fall quarter.

2002 Opened Evans County Learning Center in Claxton.

2003 Opened Occupational Studies building.

Dr. Gene Waters appointed as president.

2004 Dedication of main building on campus as the Joseph F. Kennedy Building.

2007 Dr. Dawn Cartee appointed as president.

Moved the Adult Education program to the Bulloch County Workforce Development Center in downtown Statesboro.

2008 Governor Sonny Perdue speaks at Ogeechee Tech’s Spring Commencement.

Ogeechee Tech GOAL winner Laura Bickerton selected as the State GOAL Champion.

Ogeechee Tech earns Law Enforcement Academy.

Ogeechee Tech initiates four-day workweek.
