DISPLAYS
FRYER LIBRARY
• Fryer Library was approached by the Ipswich Art Gallery for the loan of architectural plans from the Haenke collection to feature in a special exhibit highlighting the architect’s connection to Ipswich that was mounted at the gallery from July to October 2010.
• Fryer launched the online display Daphne Mayo: a Significant Woman of Her Time curated by Cassie Doyle with web design by Marg Powell. The display not only examines Mayo’s sculptural output but also her lifelong commitment to the role of art in education and public life. It has proved popular and has been substantially publicised in the press.
• Fryer staff contributed substantially to a display on the student experience over 100 years of UQ’s history. The display was mounted in the foyer of the Duhig Building for the Centenary Celebrations.
• On Sunday, April 18, UQ Centenary Celebration Day, Fryer Library mounted an exhibition of treasures on Level 4, Duhig Building and participated in a ‘Vote for Your Favourite Treasure’ competition. Participants had to have their entry card stamped in all five locations on campus and could then nominate their favourite treasure among all the items displayed at the various museums. All valid entries for the most popular treasure at each museum were then entered in the final draw. Fryer Library had 461 visitors to its treasures display. The most popular item was Fryer’s prized copy of Louisa Anne Meredith’s Bush Friends in Tasmania (1891).
• The Treasure of the Month initiative was maintained. Online displays were produced with corresponding physical displays in the FW Robinson Reading Room for the following:
o George Sampson, Pioneer Music Maker o Palaeoart, Dinosaurs on Campus

o Gleanings from Australian Verse o Brisbane’s Regent Theatre 1929-2010 o ‘Our Ekka’ o Brisbane Writers Festival o Monsignor Michael Potter Collection o Our Country, Our Christmas
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES LIBRARY
BSL staff were involved in the Centenary Community Day celebrations on Sunday, 18 April. Photograph albums documenting the refurbishment of BSL were displayed for visitors to peruse. Automated video screenings ran constantly in eZone 2 and on the level 2 display glass. BSL also hosted the green room for the writer’s hub and staff were busy all day directing and assisting authors there.
• Biological Sciences Library was also included as a Quest location in the eDiscovery
Quest run on the Centenary’s Community Day. The Quest was designed to increase UQ awareness by leading participants to key locations in and around the Great Court. Quiz questions were designed to get people into museums and collections to look for the answers, rather than just finding the location.

LAW LIBRARY
• The first display of 2010 was on Shakespeare and the Law. • During February and March branch staff worked on producing a display for the UQ
Centenary Celebrations entitled Law graduates: contributing to the profession (Appendix 1.1). This was very well received by visitors to the Library and part of the display remained in place for the Alumni weekend in July.
• During the second quarter of the year, a display promoting the Queensland Law Student Review was compiled, following a request from Dr Andreas Schloenhardt, the editor of the journal. During the mid-semester break, a display promoted the legal fiction and films available in the Law Library.
• This was followed by a display detailing the history of the Walter Harrison Law Library which used material prepared for the Library Reunion and extracts from John East’s A History of the University of Queensland Library.
UQ/PAH LIBRARY
This year’s PA Week display, “Leading Health in a Changing World”, was one of the best displays PAH Library has created. It received much praise during the week. Following PA Week the display was mounted in the PAH Library and then moved in September to PACE Health Sciences Library in time for the School of Medicine and Diamantina Institute welcome morning teas.

SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES LIBRARY
• Staff mounted 3 displays in the main foyer of the Duhig building this semester one for the UQ Centenary celebrations in April, a Diversity Week display and one for the Library reunion event in July.
• In Semester 2 a very successful display about UQ Press was mounted with much positive feedback, UQ Press subsequently requested several of the posters for their own use. This was followed by a display for Research Week and then one on Graduations.
• The space outside the ezones housed a display on Queensland Indigenous Authors which was much commented on.

• Photos were also donated by the departments of Earth Science and Architecture
to add to Fryer’s collection of historic UQ photographs.
• A major addition to the papers of Frank Moorhouse was purchased, covering the whole of his life and career, and including family correspondence, early writings, journals, notebooks, travel diaries, manuscripts, an extensive archive of photographs, and material covering his efforts as author advocate in the area of copyright andbroader industry standards within the Australian writing community.
