It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the X International Conference on Structural Dyna-mics, EURODYN 2017, in Rome, organised by the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome and the Europe-an Association for Structural Dynamics, EASD. This Conference follows earlier successful con-ferences held in Bochum (1990), Trondheim (1993), Florence (1996), Prague (1999), Muni-ch (2002), Paris (2005), Southampton (2008), Leuven (2011) and Porto (2014), and we are very honoured to host this important Internatio-nal Conference at the campus of the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza University. The increasing success of the previous editions is without doubt a demonstration of the signifi-cance of the conference series.EURODYN 2017 covers all major aspects of structural dynamics and is devoted to recent theoretical, numerical and experimental deve-lopments. Three plenary lectures open the Conference on Monday morning, while six semi-plenary lectu-res are scheduled to open the Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The Confe-

rence is organised in a General session and 26 Mini-symposia; the scientific contributions are all orally presented during 10 parallel sessions. Tuesday morning the first presentation is devo-ted to the memory of Professor Wilfried B. Kra-etzig, a renowned scientist and engineer, and the founder of the EURODYN Conference series.Wednesday morning, the presenters of MS03 Nonlinear Dynamics will remember Professor Ali H. Nayfeh, pioneer of nonlinear dynamic phenomena and father of a generation of rese-archers in mechanical dynamical systems.More than 1000 abstracts have been submitted, of which 830 were accepted; some 600 papers were finally submitted and will be presented during the conference by authors from over 54 Countries. The papers are published in a special issue of Procedia Engineering, an open access collection of conference proceedings, indexed by Scopus and ISI Web of Science. The con-ference programme and book of abstracts are provided to facilitate participants during the Conference. While the EURODYN Conference was initially a European event, over time participation from

non-European countries has remarkably incre-ased and this X Edition enjoys a wide internatio-nal participation. We would like to thank all the mini-symposia organisers, as well as the members of the Inter-national Scientific Committee for their contribu-tion to the successful organisation of EURODYN 2017. We would also like to thank all keynote lecturers, authors, participants, sponsors and exhibitors for their contribution; last but not le-ast, the kind support of Gerhard Müller, EASD President and the Executive Board. A special word of thanks finally goes to all who actively collaborated in the organisation of this event at Sapienza University and to the Conference se-cretariat for their considerable assistance. We hope you will have a stimulating and fruitful EURODYN 2017 along with a very pleasant stay in Rome.

Fabrizio Vestroni, Conference ChairVincenzo Gattulli, Conference Co-ChairFrancesco Romeo, Conference Co-Chair

Welcome to Rome and to EURODYN 2017

Welcome

05

Dear participants of EURODYN 2017,

a warm welcome to the 10th International Conference on Structural Dynamics, EURODYN 2017. Our tour through Europe, that started in Bochum in 1990 and since then has moved at three-year intervals from Trondheim to Floren-ce, Prague, Munich, Paris, Southampton, Leu-ven and Porto, this year has arrived in Rome for another exciting exchange of novel and re-cent developments within the field of Structural Dynamics. I am sure that this conference will again provide an excellent platform for a frui-tful exchange of ideas and for establishing links

between research groups that share or comple-ment topics and activities.

On behalf of the European Association for Structural Dynamics (EASD), I would like to express our gratitude to the Chair of this confe-rence, Fabrizio Vestroni and his Co-Chairs Vin-cenzo Gattulli and Francesco Romeo for their professional and intensive organization. Our sincere appreciation to all other members of the organizing committee, among them the chair of EURODYN 2014, Álvaro Cunha and esteemed colleagues from Rome and Florence. I extend our thanks to all organisers of the 26 mini-sym-

posia for the intensive review process, which resulted in a very promising technical program-me. And a special thanks to Sapienza University of Rome and its Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering for providing the venue and logisti-cs in a most stimulating environment.

On behalf of EASD, I wish you an interesting and inspiring EURODYN 2017 and an enjoyable stay in the historic heart of the Eternal City of Rome.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana: managing the national infrasctructure

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), the national infra-structure manager, is the company within FS Italia-ne Group that guarantees access to the rail network to the various transport companies, providing maintenance, safe rail travel, ensuring the entire in-frastructure is efficient, and ensuring safety and se-curity activities. With its over 24,000 km of tracks, including over 1,300 km of High Speed tracks, it provides for about 9,000 trains running per day.RFI manages investments to improve and develop railway lines and infrastructure, and develops technology for the safe management of transport, following plans established in the Investment section of the Programme Contract drawn up in agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.RFI guarantees the accessibility of stations and services supplied by the rail companies to passengers and in general to all users following the principles and values that guide RFI’s relationship with its clients and the general public. In its role as Station Manager, it guarantees assistance to people with reduced mobility or disabilities in stations. The manager of the national infrastructure establishes the annual rail timetable based on requests made by companies transporting passengers or freight, in accordance with the rules and criteria listed in the Network Statement, the official document with which RFI communicates to its clients procedures, terms and conditions according to which infrastructure capacity is assigned and for the delivery of associated services. On the international front, it promotes the integration of Italian infrastructure with the European rail network.

Moho s.r.l. is an Italian worldwide known com-pany manufacturing devices for geophysical prospection and civil engineering conceived to be precise, reliable, truly portable and different from what already exists. TROMINO®, the MoHo’s flagship instrument, is an internationally patented “all-in-one” tromo-meter and seismometer. Originally designed for passive seismic surveys and for the dynamic characterization of soils, it has later been suc-cessfully employed in the dynamic characteriza-tion of structures (modal analysis), in the vibra-tion monitoring and other fields.Acquiring the key parameters of the ground and structure motion during earthquakes and other excitations, in real time, is an increasing demand.SURICAT, a strong-motion accelerometer desi-gned for permanent monitoring of structures has also been designed to this task: precise enough to provide information of engineering interest, cost-effective to be used in extended networks.MoHo s.r.l. conceives, designs and manufactu-res both the hardware and the software of its instruments in full autonomy. Research, deve-lopment, production, calibration and testing are all made in house at the headquarters in Venice (Italy). If you are looking for new solutions for modal analysis of structures and vibration monitoring, discover our website www.moho.world and come and see us at MoHo’s booth!
