This comprehensive degree provides depth in naturopathy and medical sciences to well prepare you for integrative practice. In the first two years of study you will gain an extensive knowledge in a variety of health sciences including anatomy and physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and physical health assessment. A wide range of natural therapies are studied ,inincluding nutrition and herbal medicine, all from a sound evidence base while retaining holistic philosophy. You are trained to review laboratory tests and other assessment and diagnostic tools and in your last year all of your learning is brought together in the safe environs of the Prema Clinic, where you conduct supervised one-to-one sessions with clients. Part of your professional development includes a course on managing a complementary therapies practice. Accreditation Graduates can apply for registration with the Natural Health Council (NZ). Practitioners can become members of NZ Association of Medical Herbalists, Naturopaths of New Zealand, the New Zealand Society of Naturopaths and the Australian Natural Therapists Association, and NZAMH (New Zealand Association of Medical Herbalists). Wellpark College is proud to offer New Zealand’s first degree in Naturopathy. 4 credits must be in writing. These literacy credits must be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards, and

• A minimum of 12 credits at NQF level 2 or higher in one of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Science or

• Equivalent secondary school qualifications.

Mature Entry - Following a successful interview process, applicants 20 years of age and over will be admitted to the programme but will be required to undertake extra study during the first year (or study prior to enrolment) if they are inadequately prepared for science subjects.

Candidates should consider that they will be studying at tertiary level and need to be able to plan academic studies, study independently, structure ideas, complete assessment work on time and have good verbal and written communication skills.

All students must have a current first aid before commencing the clinical component of the programme.

English language requirements - all students must demonstrate competence in written and spoken English. The College has increased its requirement for English proficiency.

Students whose first language is neither English nor Maori shall provide IELTS results (academic) with a minimum band score of 6.5 overall and not less than 6 in each band or evidence of a comparable level of proficiency in written and spoken English.

Admission and SelectionStudents must have passed NCEA Level 2 or the equivalent level, with a pass in biology and chemistry. NB: For those successful candidates who have not met these requirements, alternative pathways will be offered to allow them to reach the level required.

Applicants under 20 years of age (minimum entry age 18 years) - a minimum of 42 credits at Level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), including a minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from the approved NZQA subject list. A further 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the NQF or approved subjects, and

• A minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in Mathematics on the NQF, and

• A minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher on the NQF in English or Maori, 4 credits must be in reading and

• Students will undergo an interview with the Naturopathy Faculty to confirm their eligibility and suitability to enter the programme. Students will be selected on the basis of their likelihood to succeed with their studies. Interviews will be conducted with all prospective students to gauge if their situation and circumstances will allow them to achieve successful study outcomes. The Faculty has the discretionary right to decline a student a place if they think she/he is ineligible and/or unsuitable or will be unlikely to succeed with their studies.

Applications for entry should be submitted by December. Those who are chosen to undergo the interview process will be informed soon after application. We encourage all who are considering enrolling to attend an open evening in which the programme is explained in detail and questions answered. A further meeting with Student Liaison can be made if necessary, to seek advice and guidance. We also encourage those wishing to enrol to submit their applications early as places are limited.

Full-time fees apply to students enrolled in a full-time programme. Full-time students must be enrolled to a minimum of 0.8 EFTS. Domestic fees apply to New Zealand Citizens, New Zealand Permanent Residents and Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents, living in New Zealand. All other students are considered international.

Part-Time ProgrammePart-time fees apply to students enrolled in a qualification totalling less than 0.8 EFTS. Please ask Student Liaison for further details regarding fees for individual courses.
