Who Can Register

The following categories of students are eligible for admission to the Summer School:

Registered students of the University who have to repeat any of the course(s) offered.

Registered students of the University who have not taken the course(s) previously, but fall into one of the following categories:-

Students of the University who have not yet completed the requirements for the degree programme for which they are registered.

Registered UWI students from other UWI campuses.

Students of the University who have been granted (a) leave of absence for Semester I and/or 2, or (b) permission to Write “Examinations Only”.

Individuals that are not students of the University, but are eligible to matriculate at either the Normal or Lower level or as a mature student.

Summer School can help you meet the graduation requirements for 2012/2013.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Summer School is optional.

Each Department reserves the right to withdraw a course if the quota for the course is not met.

Summer Course Load: Students can register for a maximum of TWELVE (12)

credits; e.g. four out-of-faculty courses (3 credits each), two in-faculty 6-credit courses, or three 4-credit courses. Finalizing students may apply to the Associate Dean for special permission to exceed credit limit.

There is no deregistration; consequently, if you add a course and you do not

drop it by the stipulated deadline, the course will remain on your record and you will:

be charged for the course receive a grade of FA

If you do not register for a course by the stipulated deadline you will not be

allowed to sit the exam for that course (see Summer School Coordinator). This includes students given permission to sit courses as exams-only.

It is the sole responsibility of the students to ensure that their registration is completed.

(Students should check with their respective Departments to find out which category they are qualified for before registering). TIMETABLE - Students, who are pursuing more than one course, should choose carefully and register for only one course in any one time slot.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

1. A student is deemed to be fully registered for the Summer Programme when the student has fulfilled his/her financial obligations to the University.

2. All Faculty of Science and Technology students should register for no more than twelve (12) credits in summer school 2013.

3. All Faculty and Departmental Information for Summer School will be available online and through the various Departments’ offices. Registering for course on another Campus

4. To register for a course on another Campus, go to the Student Administration System (SAS) link and select the Automated Student Request Module option and then make your request. It is recommended that you follow-up on your request with the Faculty, Dean’s Office.

Cooperation Registration includes three components, all of which must be completed as follows:

Online selection and approval of courses Pay fees at the Bursary Cashier, National Commercial Bank, BillExpress,

PayMaster or via UWI e-Commerce https://eservices.mona.uwi.edu/finserv/tuition/

CHANGE/WITHDRAWAL OF REGISTRATION

After June 10 – June 16th, 2013 Academic Board Approval is required for

additional add/drop changes; late fines will be levied by Academic Board. Payment for late registration is $1,000.00. As of July 3, 2013, all adding of

courses will attract an increase in fine.

Application for withdrawal from a course after the normal registration period will attract a penalty, which shall be instituted as follows:

a. 25% of the fees up to the end of the 1st week of teaching b. 30% of the fees up to the end of the 2nd week

Students who withdraw from a course or courses after June 10th, 2013 will

not be refunded any portion of the paid tuition fee.

METHOD OF REGISTRATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

1. Download the application from the international page on the admissions site. 2. Review courses of interest and note the Course Code and correct name of the

course. 3. Include the course codes with the course name where indicated on the form.

4. Take the form to the Department offering the course and request that they approve the course by placing initials next to the course name.

5. Take the signed (initialed) form to the Admissions Section with the receipt of

the J$900 application fee that was paid at the NCB Bank, and an original and copy of the Birth Certification and previous academic records (CXC, CAPE, A-

Levels). If an Associate Degree, Diploma, Teacher's Certificate or Degree from any tertiary institution, request a transcript be sent directly to the Assistant

Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions, The University of the West Indies, Mona, Kingston 7, Jamaica.

6. Await confirmation from the Admissions Section that your offer of entry has

been approved and package prepared. 7. Accept the offer by indicating on the enclosed acceptance sheet.

8. Register for the course.

STUDENTS

Special admission is open to applicants wishing to pursue one or more courses listed in our catalogue of courses. 1. Download Application Form http://www.mona.uwi.edu/admissions/specially_admitted.php. 2. Take the form to the Department offering the course and request that they approve the course by placing initials next to the course name. 3. Take the signed (initialled) form to the Admissions Section. Contact persons Mr. Javion Hall or Maxine Campbell. 4. Await confirmation from the Admissions Section that your offer of entry has been approved and your package prepared. 5. Accept the offer by indicating on the enclosed acceptance sheet. 6. Register for the course. 7. Pay the fees.
