FACULTYRESEARCH PROFILES
From its inception in 1993, the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has been increasingly emphasizing the role of research and knowledge creation as a precondition for high-quality teaching and service (to the students, to the community, and to the profession).
Research is, therefore, an integral part of our studies, and our students are encouraged to engage in innovative research projects early in their studies under the guidance of our faculty members.
Under our Sponsored Research Policy, our faculty members apply for competitive research grants and start-up grants. All projects must first be approved by our Institutional Review Board (IRB) for meeting the research ethics standards. IUB is a subscribing organization of the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) in the U.S., and all Principal Investigators must complete an online CITI Course before they can apply for IRB’s clearance. The IRB-approved projects are subsequently evaluated by the School Research Committees and submitted to the
University Research Committee for a decision.IUB has been among eleven Bangladeshi universities that have been included in the QS Asia Rankings 2021, securing the fifth position among all eleven, and the third position among the private universities. However, based on one of the criteria (i.e., “Number of Citations per Paper,” which is an indicator of the impact of research), IUB has been ranked as number one in Bangladesh and as number nine in the whole Asia.
It is important for potential undergraduate and graduate students, for potential faculty member candidates, for potential research collaborators from other local and international universities, as well as for potential donors and sponsors of our research work, to be aware of the scope of research interests of IUB faculty members. For that, we have prepared this brochure, which shows research interests of our faculty members by Schools and by Departments, along with their contact information.
