Over the past several years, we have added a significant number of new faculty members who are bolstering our scholarly reputation and increasing the depth of our curriculum. We added three outstanding tenure track professors to our faculty this fall. Enhancing the school’s offerings in criminal law, international law and legal history are: Associate Professor Andrea L. Dennis, Assistant Professor Timothy L. Meyer and Assistant Professor Logan E. Sawyer III. Plus, we have added a full-time skills-based instructor, Eleanor Crosby Lanier. Furthermore, three of our faculty were rewarded with new titles, and one was granted tenure.

At Georgia Law, our faculty is expected to pursue a strong scholarly agenda and to contribute to the development of the law. In addition to providing congressional testimony, delivering titled lectures and being cited by the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts, our professors have had articles either published or accepted for publication in journals associated with some of our nation’s top law schools such as California at Berkeley, Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, Harvard, Northwestern, Stanford, Syracuse, Virginia, and Washington and Lee. Also, books carrying the work of Georgia professors have or will soon be published by Cambridge University Press, Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, Yale University Press, Aspen Publishers, LexisNexis and Thomson/West, to name a few.

The credentials of Georgia Law’s incoming classes continue to be among the best in the nation. While here, our students benefit from the academic rigor found in the

classroom as our professors do not allow their ambitious scholarly agendas to displace their commitment to teaching. This year, we expanded our service learning programs with the creation of our 12th clinic – the Appellate Litigation Clinic – which will assist with cases in federal appeals courts. Our international study and work abroad opportunities also continue to grow, and currently our Global Internship Program boasts legal placements with more than 60 organizations in more than 30 countries worldwide.

Another indicator of success for an educational institution is the achievements of its alumni. I am very pleased that, during the past five years, four Georgia Law graduates have clerked for the U.S. Supreme Court. Georgia Law graduates who hold faculty positions within the legal teaching academy are also on the rise. This, of course, is in addition to the many former students who have distinguished themselves in the practice of law in the public and private sectors.

I encourage you to spend a few more minutes with this publication to learn more about the vibrant community of learning at the University of Georgia School of Law, one of our nation’s finest law schools.

Sincerely,

Dean and J. Alton Hosch Professor of Law
