Increased counselor outreach and financial aid support not only increases FAFSA completion, but also has a large impact on college attendance.

Counselors are the Center of the Puzzle

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Nationally high schools underutilize school counselors as a resource to increase FAFSA completion and college attendance Students who met with counselors to talk about financial aid are 6.8 times more likely to submit the FAFSA than those who don’t meet have those meetings. Counselors tend to be heavily focused on crisis related matters, social-emotional concerns, and other counseling and/or administrative issues found that both school counselor norms (average caseload and hours spent on college counseling) and resources (college fairs, college course offerings, and financial aid) strong evidence that the introduction of the school counseling financial aid intervention resulted in substantial increase in rates of FAFSA completion and college attendance.
