Notes from Pastor Jo Ellen…

Church Family Life… Here we are at summer already! How does that

even happen? Is the church family even gathering

over the summer? Of course we are!!!

We hope you will plan to be a part of the ministries and worship gatherings

this summer with us… all are welcome and invited! It is a great time to bring

your friends, grands, neighbors, and loved ones as summer makes us just feel

more welcome, I think. Look at all the different ways you can grow this

summer and plan to be a part of what we are doing.

I don’t know about you, but I love the way that summer just kind of sneaks up

on us and then BAM! It is here! Here we are in June and ready for family

vacations, fun outside, and times of Sabbath.

I have been reading much lately on the importance of Sabbath and how our

bodies, souls, and minds need rest. You may wonder how you could possibly

take Sabbath with your full calendar and all we have planned. I think the best

way to take Sabbath is to plan for it. Schedule in times or days for rest.

Schedule in times when you simply say “no more…” Once you begin to

schedule it into your calendar, it becomes part of your life habits.

Habits can be very good...especially ones that will draw you closer to God and

your loved ones. Take time for Sabbath to pray, to read the bible, to listen to

worship music (of any kind that appeals to you), and you are sure to find

your body, soul, and mind in a better space with God at the center.

I surely plan to take my Sabbath this summer… to go to places with water

and rest… to take time to read and reflect… to pray… to worship… and yes,

even to gather as a church family for worship and times of ministry. I hear

God calling me, loud and clear, to be full of His work and also to Sabbath.

Join me!

Creative Hands to Gather…

Saturday, June 8th… 10-noon…

Join us!

If you like to knit or crochet, or would

like to learn to, please join us on this fun morning. Bring

your yarn/gear/supplies and we will have some extras here

for new folks to use also… Joanne Neely will help us with the

knitting, and Juanita Hill will share about crochet. Bring what

you are currently working on, if you already have items in

progress. It will be fun to use our creative hands together!

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Now is the time to check out the summer camps offered at Camp Fontanelle. See the display on the board near the sanctuary and get a packet… See/call Pastor Jo Ellen if you have questions.

Front Porch

Faith… If you wish to host one of these, let Pastor Jo Ellen know. Hosting involves lemonade/water, devotion, prayer, and a welcome space to gather. All ages and people welcome! Dates so far include: Wednesday, June 19 @ 9am

at the Broderick Home… 2229 Alvo Rd.

Tuesday, July 9th @ 9am at the Moore Home… 1637 Meadow Ln.

Thursday, July 11th @ 7pm at the Butzke Home… Water activities and children encouraged… 2178 Bluff Rd.

Thursday, August 1st @ 10am at the Meyer Home… 1315 Eastridge Dr.

Prayer Exchange

Board Did you know we have a board to share prayers of joy and concern in our church building? You can write out your prayers and post them to the board. Many like to push the prayers all the way inside if they are just for God to know about. Leave it sitting where others can retrieve it if it is to be shared… roll with writing on the outside. Others will gath-er these prayers and pray over them in our sanctuary or in their day to day walks. This is across from the Fellowship Hall.

go to the KIDS offering at VBS. She also has

books which can be purchased and then donat-

ed back to flood victims, who have lost much.

Hours for the Bookmobile, in conjunction with

VBS, will be Sunday, June 9th grom 4:30-5:30;

Monday, June 10th from 4:30-6; Tuesday, June

11th from 4:30-6; and Wednesday, June 12th

support this fundraiser for our KIDS offering

at VBS.

SUMC...On the Move June Newsletter (A

(A component of the Faith Community Nursing Program)

God made humankind to live in the outdoors and June just happens to be “Great Outdoors

Month!” Celebrate spring becoming summer by enjoying one of God’s best gifts … nature!

Walk, run, bike, swim, garden, camp, golf, go to ball games, grill, sit on a porch with friends

… you get the idea! Just enjoy the Great Outdoors but temper some of God’s “gifts” by

using the human gift of sunscreen and insect repellent.

Recall that last month’s focus was on walking with these “footnotes.”

*For most people, brisk walking is a rate of about 100 steps per minute.

*Strive for 20-22 minutes daily, 2 ½ hrs. per week.

*Purposeful, vigorous walking means that speaking becomes broken or even difficult. A leisurely

stroll and a brisk walk are very different forms of movement!

Our June “aTRACKtion” is a group walk around the SHS Track which, conveniently, is just north

of SUMC. Starting on 6/6, plan to meet at the track Thursday mornings at 8 a.m. for 45

minutes of walking/jogging laps. Join in the yoga fun afterwards?!?

Throughout the summer, into the fall, and maybe forever ... Gentle yoga continues to be offered on Thursday mornings from 9-9:50 am. We ask for a $5 donation each time you attend. This includes basic yoga with adaptations for chair yoga as well as adaptations for the more advanced. Typically, we have two instructors and there’s always a mat available for YOU!

Meals on Wheels Help Needed

Are you able to help? Substitute volunteer meal delivery persons are needed. A route of 7 or 8 homes takes only 30-45 minutes to deliver. Substitute drivers usually deliver once a month. It is very easy and immensely rewarding. If you are interested in serving as a substitute driver, please call Pam Garrett at 402-641-0469.

Occasionally, an individual or

family may have need for assistance with

food or gas or other necessities due to

unexpected circumstances. If you would

like to be a blessing to these needs,

please contact the church office to find

out how to help.

UMW Evening Circle thanks everyone for the fleece donated. We were able to make 9 blankets. Two went to our own church family and the others went to Seward Foster Friends. Connie Kamprath
