MONTROSE COUNTY FAIR & RODEo ROYALTYFrom le to right: Hayley Reed, Jessica Baldwin, Taylor Gibson, Ashley Watson
Miss Ashley Watson – Montrose County Fair & Rodeo Queen Walt Disney once said, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” I’m Ashley Watson and being the Montrose County Fair and Rodeo Queen is a dream that I have been working towards since I was nine years old. A er earning this title, I’ve been given multiple opportuni-ties to represent Montrose at many other fairs and rodeos, as well as at com-munity events. is past year has de nitely been a dream come true. I’ve also been given many chances to inspire young girls to do what I do, and that is being a spokesperson for the sport of rodeo and the western way of life.
I’m the daughter of Brian and Amber Watson. I also have an older sister, Courtney Hilton, who was just recently married. My parents and sister are my number one fans, and my biggest supporters. I would like to thank them for all they have done. I am looking forward to becoming a junior in high school, and being very active in FFA. I was elected Parliamentarian of my FFA chapter, I will be on the rodeo team, compete in public speaking contests, do Equestrian Working for my SAE, and compete on the Ag Sales team for my CDE all through FFA. I work very hard in school to stay active, and keep my grades up.
Apart from the Royalty and school, I do many other things with my horses. I absolutely love to barrel race, it’s my passion. I barrel race my two ve year old horses, Sugar and Rebel. Without them, it would be impossible for me to be a successful barrel racer. I also have a young colt that was just born in May, his name is Hotshot. I’m currently working with him and will train him myself to be my next barrel horse. In my free time, I show Western and English at local shows with my older show mare, Bailey. My horses are my life, and I can hon-estly say that I wouldn’t be the cowgirl I am today if it wasn’t for them.

Miss Hayley Reed – Montrose Coun-ty Fair & Rodeo Princess AttendantHi, my name is Hayley Reed and I am your 2012-2013 Montrose County Fair and Rodeo Princess Attendant. I am 12 years old and attend Centen-nial Middle School, where I am an honor roll student and my favorite subject is Math. I hope to one day pursue a career that will allow me to make use of my interest in it. I live at Alexander Quarter Horses, a horse farm south of Montrose where generations of my family have raised horses and cattle. Year round I show at 4-H, open and Quarter Horse shows, competing in all-around events. I am honored to have been chosen to represent Mon-trose and have enjoyed meeting many new people and helping with community events. I invite ev-eryone to come and enjoy our upcoming Montrose County Fair and Rodeo.
Miss Taylor Gibson – Montrose County Fair Queen Attendant Hello, my name is Taylor Gibson and I have had the privi-lege and honor of being the 2012-2013 Montrose County Fair Queen Attendant. It has been a won-derful experience to represent Montrose County in multiple parades, rodeos, community service, and social events. It is an experience that will last a life-time. Montrose County is a great place to live and I am proud to represent and share our agricultural heritage. I have lived in Montrose County all my life on a dairy farm west of Olathe. I am the daughter of John and Caryn Gibson. We own a dairy where we farm over 600 acres and own Rocking W Cheese & Milk. We produce cheese and milk and sell it throughout Colorado. This year I have had a great time being a sophomore at Olathe High School. I am very active in school by playing volleyball, basketball, and track. I have also made it a priority to get good grades and made the honor roll. I have been in 4-H for 10 years where I have show horses, lambs, dairy cows, and pigs. This year I look for-ward to showing steers. I am very active in 4-H and
school activities. Through my activities, I have learned responsibility, integrity, and pride in the activities and myself.
I have a desire to learn about animals especially horses and to become the best horseman possible. My family and I ride and show American Paint Horses. I am a member of the American Paint
Horse Association, Rocky Mountain Paint Horse Association, Utah Paint Horse Association, and the Grand Junction Horse Association. I truly love my horses and they have helped me become more confident and outgoing. Horses are God’s gift to mankind and myself.
It has been a great year working with the other Montrose County Royalty girls. I would like to thank them for a fun and rewarding year. It was fun running sponsorship flags, working cows, making new friends, and just having fun. It is my honor to celebrate the Montrose County Fair. This year has been an experience of a lifetime and I am proud to be a part of our western heritage.
Miss Jessica Baldwin - Montrose County Fair and Rodeo Princess Hi! I’m Jessica Baldwin and I’m your 2012-2013 Montrose County Fair and Rodeo Princess! I am 13 years old and an 8th grader at Columbine Middle School. I love to play volley ball, and am active in the Silver Spurs and M&M 4-H clubs where I serve as treasurer and 4-H council representative.
Riding horses is my favorite activity. I show in 4-H and open shows as well as compete in area gymkhanas where I run barrels and poles. I would like to barrel race competitively in the future. You will see me riding my equine best friend, Poco Diamond Too or ‘Poco’, in rodeos and parades this summer.
It has been an honor to represent Montrose County and the Fair at parades, rodeos, social and community service events, and the National West-ern Stock Show. I even got to meet Miss Rodeo USA! It’s been an experience I will always remember.

Ranch Rodeo – Saturday, July 27th at 6:30pm. Admission $5.
14 July 18, 2013 Montrose County Fair & Rodeo Week 2013
Th e Ranch Rodeo is an annual event that serves as a living tribute to our western heritage. Th e Ranch Rodeo promotes our unique history and lifestyle by featuring competition between real cowboys from real working ranches. Th e cowboys and their ranch horses compete in four events that showcase the necessary skills and know how ranch hands practice daily.
Spectators enjoy action, excitement, thrills, and laughs in a wholesome en-vironment as they root for their favorite teams. Fans can actively participate in the fun by purchasing one of the teams in the event Calcutta.
Events IncludeTeam Sorting: Cowboys sort numbered cattle from the herd and move them
across the fi nish line.Team Doctoring: Teams rope the head and heals of a designated animal and apply a mark to the animal simulating an injection.Team Branding: A team member on horseback ropes the calf, bringing it out of the herd. Two fl ankers remove the rope and pin the calf to the ground. A third team member “brands” the animal usually with paint that simulates the brand. Team Loading: Teams rope a steer, load the steer in the trailer along with their horses and get into the truck before the clock is stopped.
