Congratulations Presentation College Fairmont Campus Class of 2014

To keep yourself safe, remember these tips:

Be aware of your surroundings. Being on a cell phone can limit this ability.

Use the buddy system whenever possible.

Recognize who should be in the SMEC building. If someone doesn’t feel or look like he or she should be here, call the police at 507-238-4481 or dial 911.

If you have a security concern, please contact Traci Lardy in the Main Office or at 507-235-4658.

Because the Southern Minnesota Educational Campus (SMEC) Building is owned by the City of Fairmont, police officers will periodically patrol the building. It is important that you understand that the officers are here not because of any concerns, but simply for your safety. The doors to the SMEC Building are locked at 10 p.m. If you are in the building after this, you will be charged with trespassing and fined.

Keeping Yourself Safe At SMEC

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is s top priority.

Tuition Payments The Fairmont Campus no longer take tuition payments by check. Students can go to their student portal and enter in the required check information (account number, routing number, etc) to pay by check. Students may also pay by credit card on their student portal as well. Cash payments may still be made in the main office on the Fairmont Campus.

Many students, faculty, and staff came out to our Back to School Picnic held on Monday, August 25, at Cedar Creek Park. The weather was beautiful and the food was great. Check out our Facebook page for all of the photos and videos from the evening.

Traci Lardy nominated Pat Fahey Bacon & Susan Barnes to the ALS ice bucket challenge. Watch the videos on Facebook of the great fun they had doing this. Pat nominated the nursing faculty...so stay tuned for more fun pictures and videos of that.

Who will be nominated next? Everyone also

celebrated Margaret Harris’ retirement at the

picnic.

Thank you Mrs. Harris for being a wonderful instructor,

mentor, & friend.

We will all miss you!

Have Fun and Make a Difference in a Life

Kinship is an organization that believes in and promotes youth mentoring. Being a mentor to a kid in Kinship is the best volunteer opportunity you could choose. It’s as simple as taking a child with you for about an hour a week and having fun doing things that you enjoy. Just showing a child that you care by spending time with them makes you a hero in their eyes. Mentors include their mentees in their normal activities through which the child becomes aware of how others live: your work, schooling, recreation, interests, values, family, friends, etc.

Currently, we have kids waiting for a mentor like YOU.

The boys are 6, 10, and 13 years old. They are interested in doing sports, playing catch, Legos, going snowmobiling, learning how to fix things, working with tools, building with wood, going fishing & hunting, working on cars, riding motorcycles, swimming, boating, and bowling.

The girls are 6, 7, and 10 years old. They are interested in coloring, doing crafts, reading, playing sports, gymnastics, dancing, cooking/baking, gardening, riding horses, playing with Barbies/My Little Pony, games/puzzles, going to the park, sewing/quilting, and watching movies.

We have more children being added to our waiting list every week. Kinship takes care to match volunteer adults with children who may share the same interests. Thus, it is important that you take steps now to become a mentor and are available when the perfect match (child) comes along.

For more information and an application, contact Char Kahler at [email protected] or call 236-4606 (cell) or 238-4440 (Kinship)
