From the Pastor

Scripture Reading: “So God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him; male and female, he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground” (Genesis 1:27-28).

In the Beginning

When God said, “Let there be light,” light appeared. God spoke and the world came into being. “For this is what the Lord says - he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited - he says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other’ ” (Isaiah 45:18). In his sovereignty, God has chosen us to be stewards over his creation.

Because God is the creator of all, he is also the owner of all things. “I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalms 50:9). God has created us and the world, and he has never relinquished his ownership. As God’s stewards, we are the caretakers and managers of his creation. In spite of our wayward and sinful ways, he has chosen us and given us the privilege and responsibility to be his stewards. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name” (John 15:16).

Undeserving as we are, God uses us as his hands, feet, and mouths. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). We are his stewards. As created and redeemed people of God, we are called to willingly render the first fruits of our lives and resources to him.

Not only has God chosen us to be stewards of his creation, he makes our stewardship possible. We speak about him because he has first spoken to us. We love because he first loved us. We give because he first gave. The Apostle Paul wrote, “What do you have that you did not first receive?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). What we do is always in response to what God does. From our heavenly Father, we receive the gifts and abilities to use in our stewardship. We are responders, not the initiators. Our stewardship is our response of gratitude for God’s gifts of creation and his grace given to us through Jesus. Through his Word, God gives us his plan, and we use the resources he has given us to fulfill his purpose.

In Christ,

Pastor Bodnyk Prayer Dear heavenly Father, every animal in the forest and the cattle on a thousand hills are yours. Help us to be faithful stewards of all that you entrust to us. We pray that you will use us in ways that help show others your life-saving Gospel. In your name we pray. Amen.

CHURCH CHATTER

Happy Birthday to Michael John Bodnyk, Jr., who will

celebrate his birthday on July 26th and to Sandy Bodnyk who will

celebrate her birthday on August 29th.

Best wishes to both of you from members and friends of Faith!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Thank You Church Friends,

Thanks to Pastor and others for visiting me in the hospital and at home, while I was

recuperating from surgery. All the prayers, phone calls, food, flowers and cards (I love

cards) were so appreciated. The kindness, caring and support shown to me has been

overwhelming. I will continue to need your prayers as I’m embarking on this new journey.

It includes 5 months of chemotherapy but I know that God will give me strength for each

day and encouragement in difficult times. God bless you all.

Barb Kotsch ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Pastor,

Thank you for visiting me and praying for me while I was in the hospital. Thank you also

goes out to The Prayer Group, I appreciated each and every one of your prayers. A caring

person from your church brought me a beautiful flower arrangement. All of these

thoughtful gestures of nice things still continue to be done and I can’t tell you how much I

appreciate them. Sally Holobusky

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Pastor, Church Staff, Members and Friends of “Faith,”

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your visits, cards, prayers and concern during my

recent operation. Friends at “Faith” and mostly faith in itself are surely so important in all

the aspects of our daily living. May God bless you all and peace be with you as always.

Love, Judy Paine

From Christian Education Director……

Thank you to students, parents, teachers, teacher helpers, and everyone who helped make this past year (September – June) a great experience. In addition to weekly lessons, the youth were trained for

fire safety with practicing a fire drill and learning how to properly use a fire extinguisher. They worked with the Girl Scouts and enjoyed nutritional treats.

They experienced a Passover meal...thanks to the Adult Forum class. Thanks to Jennifer and Linda, the youth presented many terrific musical selections. The youth enjoyed a fun way of learning The Ten Commandments. Thanks also to our seamstresses who put the youth into costumes for the Christmas Pageant. Also, thanks for the construction of the stable. Thank you to Karen Hess, who plans our Jesus Birthday Party and our Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you to our Youth Teachers who assisted in a Worship Service. Thank you to the teachers who decorate the Pastor’s office door.

As you can see, it takes many volunteers to offer their talents in the Christian Ed program. Also, it takes you, the member to support our youth. Your support of our Outreach Program for personal care items was unbelievable. I made two trips to the Conference of Churches and we were also able to donate some of the items to the Food Bank.

Thank you for Growing in Faith. See everyone on Sunday, September 11. The start of Sunday School classes.

Something for Fun

Walk down the hallway toward the Sunday School classrooms and check out the Flamingo Sightings.

If you vacation somewhere or visit a place (zoo) where flamingo(s) are found … write the location on a sticky note and put it on the mural. If you want to include your name, that is fine. Please do not include sightings of our plastic friends.

Christmas Tea

Sunday, December 4 th. Can you believe only 157 days until Faith’s Christmas Tea? The committee will have a meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at 7:00 pm in the classroom next to the office. A couple of changes will be announced. If you plan on being a hostess, but can’t make the meeting, please contact Joanne at (610) 434-7844 or [email protected]. Also, remember the tea tickets sell very fast. If

you want to be sure you receive tickets, you should let Joanne know now. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Women of Faith will be meeting Sunday, July 3rd in The Gathering Place, after the 9 a.m. service. We are meeting to regroup and reorganize. Come for refreshments that nourish the body and the soul. Bring ideas on what we can do to get this group off the ground again. We want to encourage female fellowship that lends an ear to God’s whispering Word …. are you listening? Contact: Karen Euculano (610) 597-4888, Jackie Daniel (610) 434-5841.

2016 Synod Assembly NEPA Synod Unleased for

Reformation 2017

Opening Worship was moving. The music of Tangled Blue and Mark Mummert was inspiring. After the reports were approved we heard from The Rev Andrea L ELCA Global Mission Area Director of Madagascar and West Africa. She reported on mission efforts here and around the world. We are one church in 9,300 places, almost 4 million people moving forward together. She presented a video from Presiding Bishop Eaton. Bishop Eaton said We are church, We are Lutheran We are church together, and We are church for the sake of the World. Earlier two members gave a challenge for the offering for World Hunger they would match up to $15,000. The congregations of our synod collected $85,000 including a gift from Christ, Conyngham of $50,000. With some additional contributions the synod will be able to contribute over $100,000. We heard presentations both days from The Rev. Dr. Cheryl M. Peterson Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. She talked about how the church needs to reach out to new demographic. Those who are spiritual, but not be religious. Her second day the subject was Twelve Suggested Shift for a church unleased by the Spirit. LTSP President David Lose spoke about some of the changes for Philadelphia and Gettysburg Seminaries. Friday evening we learned about Luthergarten: 500 Years of Reformation. 500 trees for Wittenberg. Evan if I knew the world were to collapse tomorrow. I would still plant my apple tree today (ascribed to Martin Luther) June 13th a team from our synod planted a Silver Linden Tree Identified as number 323 in Wittenberg. We adopted a Spending Proposal for 2017. We are reducing spending by $100,000. The proposal retains a split of 47% of income to the ELCA and 53% for synod operations. Support for “Other Institution & Agency Support” was reduced from 10% to 8%. We enjoyed God’s Playground, an area where organizations set up information tables on the different work they are doing. We closed with a Festival Communion Service. If you would like more information go to the synod website. nepasynod.org. Thank you for letting us represent Faith. May the Spirit be in all of us.
