APRIL NEWSLETTER 2019 Faith Lutheran Church

308 2nd St. NW, Dodge Center, MN 55927

Dear People of Faith,

Quarter 1, 2019…. Under our belts!

Wow! What a quarter one it was. In addition to the vibrant and thriving ministries that happen on a daily basis at Faith, we have been deeply engaged in our Remember+Sustain+Grow Campaign.

Did you know: After a very successful initial capital campaign in 2007 to raise a portion of the money needed to fund the adding of our beautiful sanctuary and office space, we have been blessed by the faithfulness of those who have continued to financially support the building fund, in addition to the general fund, in order for us to make our monthly payments to our lending company these past 10 years. Now’s the time: After hearing the desire from the people of Faith to be a debt free congregation, it was determined that now’s the time for all of us to join with those faithful givers in contributing to the building fund to become that debt free congregation we desire to be. Over the past 10 years the face of Faith Lutheran has changed. Folks have come and gone and many may not even be aware that we still owe money on our wonderful building. Now’s the time for each and every one of us to be a part of something God-sized, becoming debt free, in order to reallocate those resources to current and new ministries. We’re all in this together: Join me in being a part of something amazing and holy. Join me in participating in the Remember+Sustain+Grow Campaign and watch, in amazement, the work of God’s Spirit in this God-sized dream. Most recently, you received a letter inviting you to consider your participation in this effort, as well as an intent card. As you discern this ‘ask’, we invite you to complete your intent card and bring it with you to worship on SUNDAY, APRIL 7 as we join together for INTENT SUNDAY where we give our intents to God. If you are unable to join us for worship, please send or drop off your intent card to the church office.

People of Faith… THANK YOU! Thank you for praying for and supporting the Pantry of Faith. Through this ministry we were able to share 482 bags of groceries with families in Dodge Country in 2018! At the end of the first quarter of 2019 we have been able to share 105 bags of groceries with folks.

This ministry, which is completely funded through grants, donations, and the volunteerism at the Berne Pizza nights fills a need for many families who need a ‘bridge’ to get from one month to the next. A Pantry bag offers ingredients for 4 predetermined meals (spaghetti with meat sauce, pancake meal, tuna helper hotdish, chicken helper hotdish), as well as breakfast cereal, bread, peanut butter, applesauce, canned fruit and vegetables, hotdogs, hamburger and milk. There are several ways for you to participate in this ministry: pack bags, assist on distribution days, volunteer at the Berne Pizza nights, serve on the Outreach team, help write grants. Contact Monica Keesling, Erica Wennes, or Pastor Barb if you would like to learn more about becoming involved in this much needed ministry.

On the street I saw a small girl, cold and shivering in a thin dress with little hope of a decent meal. I became angry and said to God, “Why do you permit this? Why don’t you do something?” That night God replied, “I have. I made you.”

The ministries of Faith Lutheran can not happen without YOU! We are God’s hands and feet in this world. Our ministry teams need additional members… where do you want to serve?

Handout of previous minutes taken by Vicki Schweiger from February 18, 2019 meeting. Motion to approve by Bill Ketchum, 2nd Randy Langworthy, motion carried.

Approval of Treasurer’s Report

Finance Report/Treasurer’s report shared by Corey Woxland

Motion to accept the report – Bill Ketchum, 2nd VaLane Tyler, motion carried. Corey Woxland informed council of his planned resignation from the Financial Comptroller posi-tion. He will work through the end of May. He is concerned that 10/hours per week budgeted for this position is not a realistic amount of time in which to complete the work assigned. He is tracking his hours worked and 15 is more accurate if he needs to complete all duties as assigned. He will be prepared to provide training and other strategic planning in motion to the new incumbent.

Pastor’s

Report

Pastor presented her report for February and noted there were 7 new families (26 people) who joined in February. Upcoming events included the March 21st SEMN synod event at Faith, Youth Garage Sale Fundraiser March 23rd, All Congregational Event, Remember Sustain and Grow Campaign March 24th, Women’s Retreat March 29-31st. Tim Bowman preaching and presiding March 31st, Faith Finance March 31st, April 7th Intent Sunday Remember Sustain Grow Campaign and other events as presented in her report.

Approval of Consent Agenda

Reports

Each committee submitted reports on past and upcoming meetings.

Old Business Blizzard Storm Shelter. Received thank you note and $200 gift from family stranded during blizzard after Faith was opened as an emergency shelter. Donation will be put towards properties to help recover costs of extra snow removal from that blizzard. Council terms Bylaws: Discussion held about with 8 new Council members on 3 year terms, would mean in 3 years potentially 8 new Council members again. No action taken. Active/Inactive members: Potentially reach out to inactive members later summer/early fall with letters. No action taken.

New Business Citizens Bank: Discussion held about potential of moving church accounts to Citizen’s bank, since local Wells Fargo branch is closing. Bill Ketchum talked to branch manager Eric. Ryan Schrom will follow up to get more information about what Citizens Bank can offer Faith. Church Committee Memberships: Desire to have 5-7 people per committee. Perhaps having a committee fair at church to spread the info. about what each committee does, or perhaps a short Temple Talk by each committee liason at an upcoming Sunday worship. Purchases: Discussion held about current system of credit card and receipt verification system vs. going to a purchase order method for approval and accounting purposes. No further action taken. Home-Bound Members: Discussion held about potential methods of reaching our home-bound members with Sunday worship. Some ideas presented were future audio or video recording of the Sunday services that could be posted to social media to allow these people to be a part of worship. Randy will check into audio or video possibilities.

Adjourn/ Lord’s Prayer

Motion to adjourn Bill Ketchum, 2nd Jordan Lee meeting adjourned at 6:54 pm.
