Guard Trimming and Pre-Assembly
Guard Body:
Locate and mark the extension trim lines that correspond to therecorded measurements. Allow for proper clearances. Thesecan be scribed to ensure a straight cut. Be sure todouble-check your work. The numbers molded into theextensions indicate the distance from the guard centerline, fortrimming reference. Remember to calculate in the trimmed endcap dimension before cutting the guard if the end cap is used.It is recommended to first cut the stainless steel hinge pin withan appropriate metal cutting tool in the marked area for guardtrimming and use a pair of pliers or equivalent tool to pull outthe loose piece of the pin before proceeding on to cutting therest of the guard body. Next, support the guard half to betrimmed. It should be held firmly and allow for the safetrimming following the sawing tool manufacturers operatinginstructions. Be sure to read the operating instructionsthoroughly. Trim the guard halves being careful around thepre-trimmed stainless steel hinge pin. Sand or file the edgessmooth.
End Cap:
End cap is required if final assembly gaps are greater than.250”/6mm or cap is required to accommodate the overalllength (“A”). End cap I.D. can be cut to fit shaft or sealdiameter. Only allow a maximum of .250”/6mm clearance. Becareful, cutting the end cap will affect the overall “A” and “B”dimension of the guard assembly. Allow for the trimming of theend cap when measuring/ trimming your B dimension on theguard body. The overall length of the guard assembly will bereduced by .120”/ 3mm for every .512”/ 13mm of diametertrimmed from the cap.
Guard Assembly:
After trimming of guard halves and end cap, if used, iscompleted attach both legs using supplied backing plates andsupplied fasteners. Mount each leg by placing backing plateon the inside of the guard on location boss, select pilot holesbased on centerline location and place leg on outsideopposing surface, use two of the supplied 8mm fasteners toattach leg to backing plate through the guard body half.Tighten fasteners enough to keep in place. Repeat process forother leg; be sure to use same pilot hole location.
Guard Installation
Foundation attachment
Position the guard with end cap, if used, and leg kit installedin its final position. Be sure that gaps no greater than.250”/6mm exist. Adjust guard body on both legs to desiredcenterline location making sure that proper clearances areleft. Tighten leg retaining fasteners on both legs to180lb-in/20Nm. Mark the foundation drilling location in thecenter of the guard legs middle hole. When using leg kits forcenterline distances of 15.00”/380mm or higher mark thefoundation drilling location in the two outside slotted holes ineach leg. Drill through or tap a hole in foundation for usewith the customer supplied .3125”/8mm fasteners. Tightenfasteners to 180 lb-in/ 20Nm.
If leg kit for centerlines of 16.5”/419mm to 20.5”/521mm isused, attach supplied stabilizer channel between the two legsusing 4 of the supplied 8mm fasteners. Tighten fasteners to180lb-in/20Nm.

Base Adjustment, Extension Trimming, andPre-Assembly
The standard or pedestal base halves should be bolted to theguard halves with a distance setting of C. This can bemeasured from the guard center extension hole to the bottomof the base. The base knock-out will need to be removed if itprotrudes into the guard extension hole area. All guardfasteners (5 per half) should be assembled with the locknutson the guard outside, to allow for proper internal clearances. The guard face center hole must be drilled and a fastenerinstalled. Next, trim the aluminum extension halves to theirrespective B1 and B2 measurements. The extension flangeholes are spaced at 25mm (1.0 inch) increments. (See Figure1.)
CAUTION: Be sure to trim the extensions to their mating half. These can be scribed or marked using the other extensionhalf, to help ensure a straight cut. Be sure to double checkyour work. Support the extension to be trimmed. It should beheld firmly for safe trimming following the sawing toolmanufacturers operating instructions. Be sure to read theinstructions thoroughly. After trimming, file or grind theextension edges flat and smooth. You can now bolt therespective extensions and end caps (if needed) to their matingguard halves (3 fasteners per extension half). The end capcenter tab can be drilled and bolted to retain it in place (1fastener per extension half). All guard extension fastenersshould be assembled with the locknuts on the guard outside,to allow for proper internal clearances. If an extension is notused, the extension cap can be optionally bolted to the guard
half shaft opening, to reduce this opening diameter. Thecenter tabs must be removed for this use. Finally, tighten ALLguard half fasteners to 27 Nm/240 lb-in.
Guard Installation
FOUNDATION ATTACHMENT — Position the guard in itsfinal location. Be sure the rotating members are centered inthe guard and that no gaps greater than 6mm/.250" exist. Incertain installations the coupling hubs will protrude into theguard extensions. Mark the foundation drilling location in thecenter of the hinge slotted hole. Drill or tap a hole for use witha suitable customer supplied fastener or mounting stud (seeTable 1).
FINAL ASSEMBLY — Bolt the guard halves to the foundationusing the appropriate customer supplied fasteners ormounting studs (see Table 1). Bring the guard halves togetherand bolt the halves together at the guard flange (3 fasteners)and extension end caps (4 fasteners). Finally, tighten ALLguard flange fasteners to 27Nm/240lb-in.
