Page 2: Fall 2008 We Welcome New Smiles!mahwahsmile.com/newsletter10.pdf · No dental work is done at your first visit or until your desired treatment plan has been reviewed and accepted

We are pleased to announce that our office is certified to make oral sedation available to our patients. Imagine not being afraid to go the dentist. Imagine being able to accomplish dental care in as little as one appointment. That is what sedation dentistry can do for you. You have options … oral sedation or with laughing gas! Laughing gas is safe for children and you are able to drive yourself to and from your appointment. If you’ve been putting off dental work, sedation dentistry can change your life.

Helping You ToRelaxWith Sedation Dentistry... Using Pills NOT Needles!

Your initial consultation is FREE.

Your follow up comprehensive exam can be scheduled for the same day or you can come back at a later date.

No dental work is done at your first visit or until your desired treatment plan has been reviewed and accepted.

In addition, the use of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) will enhance relaxation during the appointment, making the time in the dental chair a pleasant and comfortable experience. The only thing standing between you and getting the dental care you want is a couple of tablets of medication. It couldn’t be simpler.

Once comfortable with getting dental treatment done, you can do less dental treatment under sedation, and more treatment only with laughing gas or no medication at all. Imagine going to the dentist for only preventative hygiene appointments to maintain your oral health throughout your life – painless and relaxed.

Did you know … whitening occurs from the inside of the tooth out? Whitening is a safe, simple, and convenient process that lightens the discoloration of teeth. Under dental supervision, whitening can be accomplished in only an hour, in-office ... or a few days, at home.

Crowns, bridges, veneers or bonding do not whiten with the gel. Come in and talk to us about your options!

Veneers are sculpted by hand to conceal gaps, crooked, chipped, or discolored teeth. They are strong, paper-thin, and as translucent as natural enamel. Beautiful, custom-made porcelain veneers adhere to the front surface of the original tooth and can be crafted to make your teeth look longer or wider to restore the balance of your smile.

Periodontal Disease vs Healthy Tooth & Gums

Tartar

A healthy mouth has firm pink gums, the tongue is pink and not coated, the teeth are clean and have minimal or no plaque deposits. A healthy mouth smells fresh, and is free from gum diseases like gingivitis, periodontitis, and other disorders – including oral cancer.

Gingival pockets are small spaces between your teeth and the gum surrounding them. Every day you wake up with white plaque covering as a thin layer over your teeth and your gums. When you brush your teeth, you

need to remove the plaque in between your teeth. If not, the plaque will become tartar in 24 hours; only dental instruments during dental cleanings can remove tartar. It won’t come off with regular brushing and flossing.

Tartar also builds up at those gingival pockets. If plaque and tartar aren’t removed from these pockets, gums become inflamed and the pockets of bacteria extend deeply between the root and gum. Bone and gum tissues deteriorate and, if left untreated, the

tooth becomes loose and falls out or has to be removed.

Prevention is a crucial part of your visit. Regular appointments with our staff of general dentists and on-site dental specialists allow us to catch problems in their early stages. Research has linked gum disease to respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and diabetes. We are able to prevent gum disease before it becomes a problem. Your quality of life can be improved through optimal oral health.

The crown is the visible part of each tooth.

The gums are the soft pink tissues that cover your tooth and bone.

The root of each tooth is lodged in your supporting jawbone.Healthy
