Where Magical Memories Begin

Page 3: Fall 2012 Recreation Guide

2012 has been a very busy year for the Recreation Department. Between working with the Architects on a feasibility study for future expansion of the Community Centre and working with the design team on a future skate park – we have been very busy! The feasibility study is all about reviewing the Community Centre and assessing the needs in Peachland to determine what the future centre might be. Scheduled to be completed by the end of September, the feasibility study will give us a tool we can use for planning for the future. For grants and opportunities that come available, the feasibility study will give us concrete data to help move any grant process forward. The Skate Park project is in full swing. Slated to be open either late fall 2012 or early spring 2013, the design team is working full force to come up with a park that will meet the needs of Peachland. It will be approximately 5000 square feet located to the south/east of the tennis courts in Lambly Park. It will be a “street style” park with all kinds of features to make your wheels roll. We hope to see you there!

Katie Owens has been an active volunteer with the Recreation Department for over 9 years.  Katie started volunteering with her family as part of the Rattlesnake Island Swim and her volunteer highlight is being able to count down and use the blow horn to start the race!  Since then, she has been a candidate in the Peachland Ambassador program where she expand-ed her volunteering to other races and events.  She was also an active participant in the 2011 Halloween haunted house.  Thank you Katie for all the hours you have tirelessly given our community!
