Welcome Ms. Julia WitzigOur new Family Consumer Science teacher Ms. Julia Witzig will be teac
Chefs, Retail & Design and Child Development classes.
Ms. Witzig comes to Hamilton Wenham Regional High School from Wilmin
School in Wilmington Massachusetts. Prior to teaching in Wilmington, M
worked at Masconomet Regional Middle School for two and a half years. He
will be teaching the classes in Child Development, Retail & Design and Chefs
Ms. Witzig graduated from Western Connecticut State University in
Connecticut with a Bachelors of Science degree in Health Promotion Studie
currently pursuing a Master's degree in Education from Salem State University
She has coached softball and field hockey at Masconomet Regional High Sc
the past four years. While at Western Connecticut, Ms. Witzig was a membe
Varsity softball team as an outfielder and middle infielder for three years. A
from Triton Regional High School in Byfield Massachusetts, she was a memb
varsity softball teams for four years. In addition to high school and college
Ms. Witzig played seven years of Junior Olympic Softball and also coached

Physical EducationWonderful fall weather allowed our Miles River PE classes to spend most of

The 9th Grade Wellness classes are engaged in ongoing lessons in how to
and sustain their personal target heart rate training zones. In health
students’ calculate low, medium and high intensity levels of their work
percentages of their personal target heart rate. Students then make conne
these findings in the gym with differentiated endurance activities. Examp
activities are jumping rope, jogging, speed walking and working ou
cardio-fitness equipment. In addition, the students have developed sm
activities to get their heart rate elevated safely. Examples of these acti

From Mrs. PilkanisOver-arching goal: How can I stay physically, socially and emotionally
Juniors/Seniors: The juniors and seniors have had numerous guest spea
throughout the fall semester. Sue Howland, School Adjustment Counciland intern Darcy Borowitz spoke with students about stress and transitions
during their senior year. Junior students worked with Rebecca Steinberg
School Adjustment Counselor, discussing healthy and unhealthy relation
Another guest speaker shared her family’s experience with dating violenc
discussed with students how to help someone who is in an unhealthy
relationship.
Students have created and revised personal fitness plans to include a
well-balanced and individualized work-out while meeting their own fitnes
and interests.

Field Trip to Appleton Farms: Students have been working on building
community within the class and respect for all learners. In September and
October, my Outdoor Education classes were able to apply these goals in
walking field trip to Appleton Farms. Students participated in Outdoor
Education games and helped the farm by working in the fields. Catherine
Donovan, Food Service Director, joined us in October. We brought back
some of our harvest and the kitchen staff cooked the vegetables and made
salad so students could experience freshly picked vegetables – it was delic

created their own personal fitness plans incorporating a wide variety o

Outdoor Adventure Education is the theme for our sophomores here at
Hamilton-Wenham and students have just taken a giant step in building trus
developing leadership skills. Students have now taken the primary role in th
and well-being on the challenge course. See the belay teams belaying 2 stud

11th graders - have been focussing on life long fitness. Using up to date tec
student have had the opportunity to develop an understanding of how to set
reach one’s heart rate training zone, design and implement various strength
work outs, improve flexability, and foster better eating habits through nutrit

Grade 10
My sophomore classes had come a long way from the ground level initiativ
are now climbing and belaying each other learning and developing our
communication and leadership skills
Grade 12 Classes
This Fall I have had the privilege to work with two distinctively differen
seniors. One is Competitive Games and the other is Wellness Education. A
imagine, the dynamics and chemistry of each class is immeasurably di
equally enjoyable as an educator. The Competitive Games students tru
participating in team sports and even archery. The Wellness Education
enjoy participating in Yoga and walking the track. A special thanks to Mr
