The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts
NEW!New this season, we’re hosting a Team Manager Summit January 10th at Northern Cass School.
At this event, you and your team will get to meet your challenge master as well as get a feel for the new space and performance areas.
Teams will hone their Instant Challenge skills thoughout the day to get ready for the Affiliate tournament.
Team Managers will have their own activites throughout the day learning more about the challenge, tournament as well as participate in a round table about managing a team to the state tournament.

There are seven new Destination Imagination Challenges to choose from each year. The areas of focus include: Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Structural and Service Learning. There is also a non-competitive Early Learning Challenge that allows
participants to build social and problem solving skills.
The skills learned are not only an essential part of developing the whole person, but are a sound investment in our children.

Instant ChallengeInstant Challenges require teams to engage in quick, creative and critical thin king. The team members must think on their feet by applying appropriate skills to produce a solution in a period of just five to eight minutes.

SERVICE LEARNING CHALLENGE
Project Outreach empowers youth to make a positive impact on their communities. Here are the successes achieved by Project Outreach teams that made a difference:
§ The chopsticks44 team from Bridlemile Elementary in Portland, OR, created a program to combat school bullying.
§ A team from Trophy Club, TX, created a fundraising campaign that supplied more than 500 iPods and MP3 players for music therapy programs to two children’s hospitals in their community.
§ The Wilson Word Rappers team from the Neal Math and Science Academy in North Chicago, IL, taught themselves how to read, and then created a rap song to teach their friends how to read too.

Volunteer oPPortunItIeSDestination Imagination (DI) receives support from more than 38,000 volunteers throughout 30 countries. Their passion for the DI Challenge Program strengthens and grows our community and allows an increasing number of students to participate each year.
Destination Imagination is seeking new volunteers to help equip students with the skills needed to fuel the economies of tomorrow. We are seeking support from individuals with interests in web design, marketing, fundraising, recruiting, training, social media, event coordination and more.
Team Manager Serve as a coordinator and mentor for two to four months as a team develops a unique solution to one of six open-ended Challenges. Observe as they reach past their limits and experience the creative process.
Appraiser Spend a day immersed in the celebration of teams as you provide feedback and encouragement for their creativity and innovative Challenge solutions.
Official Support teams and Appraisers throughout the tournament to make it the best experience possible for exhibiting creativity.

APPRAISERS: Each team attending the affiliate tournament must supply one appraiser. Training will be provided. Appraisers are not guaranteed to see performances outside of their challenge area. Suggestions for this position are friends from work, former DI team managers or team members (older than 18), neighbors, teachers, youth pastors etc.

VOLUNTEERS: All teams attending the affiliate tournament are required to submit the name of two part time volunteers. Typical part time volunteer tasks include door monitor, sales or registration table, etc for approximately 2 hours on the day of the tournament. We will make every effort possible that there is no conflict with them being able to watch their team’s solution to their teams’ challenge.
