• Watch “Appstate College of Ed” Facebook page for
announcements.
• Check with your academic program coordinator.
• ALWAYS check your ASU email account.
• Contact Karen Rhymer or Jean Edwards with questions
about Praxis II or licensure
• Our goal for placement notification is the end of this
semester. Check your ASU email DURING SUMMER
for any changes to your placement – these do happen.

School Calendar
• Start & End student teaching on ASU date --- given
in official placement letter.
• Early start forms if you want to begin before 1st
official day. Get from Laura Anne.
• Follow your school/county calendar during the
semester.
• Campus Meetings – Opening Meeting and Career
Fair/Seminar II, both at ASU. Dates will be in your
official placement notification.
Major Evidences
• Impact Project --- pay attention now
• Professional Development Plan (PDP) --- start this now –contact Amanda Werts (wertsal) with questions
• Praxis II – can’t officially graduate without it – can walk across the stage, but not receive diploma or licensure without it – will get an “I”

MTEL/NES
• Elementary Ed and Special Ed majors will have new
test requirements as of July 1, 2014.
• SPED majors will take Praxis II as well as 2 NES
tests.
• Elem. Ed majors will take 2 NES tests.
• You will receive an email confirming which tests and
other details within the next month from the office of
licensure.
International Student
Teaching
• RCOE contacts – Dr. Bill Peacock(peacockws)
or Ms. Jean Edwards (edwardsjk)
• 10 weeks in North Carolina, 5 weeks abroad
• Requires application, 3 reference letters, and a $150
deposit.
• Informational Meetings – Tues., Feb. 11th OR
Wed. Feb. 12th at 3 p.m. in RCOE room 124A.
Davie County Schools
• Special opportunity in this school district
• Contact:John Marshall, 336-751-5921,
• If you are interested, sign up at the conclusion of this
meeting to get on their listserv for information.
• Davie Co. representatives will be at THIS
semester’s Career Fair, March 24th, 2014
Health Clearance
• Physical screening
• TB Risk Assessment Form unless you have factors indicating testing
• You will be given two copies at Student Health Services. Bring one to Laura Anne. KEEP ONE IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL FOLDER. YOU WILL NEED THIS TO SUBSTITUTE TEACH OR GET A PERMANENT JOB.
• We are not able to fax your health form to potential employers. You must have your own copy.
Academic Clearance
• Fill out top portion after today’s meeting.
• Medical Clearance – from Student Health Svcs. or your provider. TAKE THIS FORM WITH YOU TO YOUR SCREENING.
• College of Ed majors: Take directly to Ms. Karen Rhymer in the Dean’s Office.
• Outside majors: Take to your department for processing and then to Ms. Jean Edwards in the Dean’s Office.
• Come back to Dean’s Office in a few days and ask for your processed form at the front desk. Read, sign, and KEEP THE YELLOW COPY in your professional folder.
• Bring form to Laura Anne or SLIDE UNDER HER office door –404F.
Criminal Background
Checks
• Complete ASU Criminal Background Check Form.
• Give form to Laura Anne.
• Complete on-line portion of CBC when prompted by
email from Jean Edwards.
• Most counties do their own background check in
addition – processes vary.
• ASU CBC’s and Watauga County CBC’s are due
immediately.
Forms
• Notecard
• Drug-testing waiver
• Placement Data Sheet
• Criminal Background Checks – ASU, Watauga if
it is your first choice of district.
• TURN IN TODAY OR NO LATER THAN
THURSDAY, FEB. 27TH.
FORMS, part II
• Student Teaching Clearance (2-part yellow and
white)
• Complete Health Examination Certificate
• DUE NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, MARCH 27TH
The Big Moment:
Placement Notification!
• People will receive notifications over a 6-week period beginning as early as late March and ending as late as mid-May.
• You will receive an official placement email from Laura Anne. The subject will be: YOUR STUDENT TEACHING PLACEMENT.
• Do not make living arrangements until you have received this email.
• Contact your cooperating teacher as soon as possible after you receive your confirmation letter. Arrange to visit the school and meet your teacher and principal. Ensure that you are in the correct curriculum for your degree.

• Praxis II Scores
• Health Examination Certificate
• Academic Clearance – yellow copy
• Professional Development Documents
• A printed copy of your official placement
