TASK FORCE continued ...elementary schools, the need for renovations at JHS, and the potential design of Pre-K programming. The work included 6 meetings, 7 tours, and board presentations. Task Force members spent many hours reviewing possible answers to questions such as:

✢ How can we best use current space to accommodate the students and programs offered?

✢ How can we distribute enrollment in a manner that best serves the needs of the students?

✢ How will attendance areas be impacted?

✢ Do we need to modify our existing facilities?

✢ Do we need to acquire new space?

✢ How will transportation be impacted?

Task Force presentations to the Board of Trustees.

✢ How will our students and their families be impacted?

✢ How do we best communicate the decision-making process and outcomes to the Lafayette community for their support?

✢ Which option promotes the greatest fiscal and educational responsibility?

The Board of Trustees reviewed the suggestions of the Task Force VI sub-committees. These suggestions were posted on the LSC website (www.lsc.k12.in.us) for public viewing during the months of July, August, and September. A huge thank you is extended to all committee members for the countless hours of dedication to the future of LSC!

During the September 22, 2014 Board meeting, trustees unanimously voted to relocate Oakland High to the Washington Education Center. This would allow for the Oakland building to be re-opened as an elementary attendance center. Families and parents are encouraged to visit the LSC website and publications for information regarding this movement of attendance centers.

TransportationThe Lafayette School Corporation currently provides transportation services to nearly 7,800 students. This number includes providing special education transportation for the entire Tippecanoe County. Under the leadership of Jim Scroggin the fleet of 110 buses are operated and supervised by 163 employees. These employees annually participate in ASM training, bus evacuation drills, and recertification of driving skills. The Special Needs team finished 2nd and 3rd in state this past year and the Inspector finished 3rd in the state competition.

During the 2014-15 school year, the LSC Transportation Department will be using the Versatran software package for the first time to improve transportation services for students and their families. This software provides features that improve efficiencies for routing and communication within and outside of the school corporation. The feature most used by parents includes a portal found on the LSC website. This portal allows parents to inquire instantly about transportation eligibility, bus numbers and stops, and pick-up and drop-off times. Parents, community members, or realtors can locate this portal by following the steps below:

• The LSC Transportation Department is made of 163 employees.

• Nearly 7,800 students benefit from LSC transportation services.

• LSC has a fleet of 110 buses.

BECOME PART OF THE FAMILYThe Lafayette School Corporation provides a rich and dynamic curriculum for students. Often these learning opportunities are supported through the work of community members or volunteers. If you would like to become part of the LSC family through volunteer work, please visit www.helplsc.com. During your visit to this website you will see that school personnel post their needs for extra hands, supplies, materials, or monetary donations. Parents and community members can become a volunteer by registering at this website. This registration allows an individual the opportunity to review the posted needs and decide if they would like to volunteer by donating time, talent, or materials.

For the safety of students, staff, and volunteers, the Lafayette School Corporation requires volunteers to obtain a background check before volunteering in the classroom or attending a field trip. LSC gladly provides this service free of charge to potential volunteers. If your commitment to help includes working in the school or helping with field trips, please visit www.helplsc.com and complete the background check today!

The Lafayette School Corporation invites you to explore this website and become part of the LSC family! Your help is greatly appreciated by many!

The purpose of the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress Plus (ISTEP+) program is to measure student achievement in the subjects of English/Language Arts, Science, and Mathematics. Students completing Algebra I , Biology I, or English 10 take the criterion-referenced End of Course Assessment (ECA). Each year approximately 75 students at Tecumseh take Algebra I for credit and therefore take the ECA test. The test focuses on solving, graphing, and pairing linear equations, polynomials, and solving and graphing quadratic equations. The data to the left indicates the success rate of these TJH students as they complete high school course work.

ENERGY SAVINGS PROGRAM The Lafayette School Corporation takes great pride in the fact that it is shaping the future of the Lafayette area and the country. In this competitive global economy schools are being asked to make this impact in ways they have never been asked to before. Financial support for schools has taken on a new challenge as well. With this need to impact and operate with fiscal responsibility, maximizing the corporation’s resources is at an all-time high.

With this knowledge, the LSC Board of Trustees entered into an agreement with the energy conservation company known as Cenergistic. This company is known for its ability to systematically help schools reduce gas, electric, and water consumption. Through the establishment of energy practices that focus on human behaviors, Cenergistic is estimating that LSC can reduce energy expenditures by $6.3 million over the next decade. This savings covers the cost of the contractual agreement

and ensures the predicted savings of $6.3 million. If this savings does not occur, Cenergistic refunds LSC the difference.

Under the local leadership of Jeff McCoy and Eric Rody, the savings for the 2013-2104 school year made the following impacts:

• The Energy Savings program saved a total of $677,235 during the 2013-2014 school year.

• Energy costs for LSC decreased by 26%.

The goal of this work is to ensure that school finances align with educational priorities. With the energy savings to date, LSC has been able to make the following shifts in the local budget:

• Registration fees were lowered at the elementary and intermediate school level.

• Supply budgets of each school were increased by 27% for the 2014-2015 school year.

Enrollment• For the past 3 years, Kindergarten enrollments

have averaged 700 students per year.* Spring IREAD-3 result consists of Preliminary data. Final proficiency will be calculated after summer test. Due to federal privacy laws, student performance data may not be displayed for any group fewer than 10 students. IREAD-3 only assesses students in grade 3.

The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation and Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1367 (also known as Public Law 109 in 2010), which requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three. The purpose of the assessment is to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four.
