My Goals:
Implement the Delta Upsilon Alumni Mentorship Program
Host an alumni networking event in the fall
Create more transparency between alumni and our active chapter
Continue the success of our great chapter
Brothers,
I hope all is going well. For starters I want to introduce myself. I
am Scott McGehee, and have been elected to be the VP of Alumni
Relations for 2016. I am a sophomore studying personal financial planning,
and this is my first year in DU. I am very excited to serve in this position,
and I plan to continue the success of the men in this position before me as
well as making improvements in any way I can. In my position I want to
make sure our alumni’s voices are still heard in our chapter. I am always
willing to talk with anyone. E-mail me at [email protected] or call/text
me at 620-719-7207. I am here to do anything I can do.

First Semester Summary
I’ll start picking up from where Nate, our previous Alumni Relations chair, left off. We
had a very eventful and successful first semester which included events such as move in,
serenades, an intramural championship, and successful philanthropy. We are excited to share
with you the house’s continued success as a fraternity at Kansas State.
Move In Day
Move in day took place on August 19th. Families and new members bustled in and out
of house, carrying their clothes, furniture and personal belongings into their new home. Mom’s
club helped make the new members and their families feel at home with snacks and beverages.
Following move in, new members were given a tour of campus from brothers Joe Knopp and
Kyle Williams along with House mom Kat Lopez.

First week, Serenades
The first week back in the house was filled with brotherhood events to help new members
acclimate to the house. The biggest event hosted at the house is known as DU Olympics, which
consists of a day filled with sports, a hot dog eating competition and a big cookout. With
serenades coming around the corner, new members diligently practiced their songs that they
would soon sing to every sorority on campus.
August 22nd marked the big day: serenades. The new members
did absolutely amazing serenading the women with three
different songs and dancing with each of their new members.
The group consisted of the 30 new fall members, and the 2 new
members from the spring.

2015 New members serenade the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega, DU’s homecoming partner for 2015. Afterwards each new member of the sorority was presented a rose and a short dance.

Family Day
On September 18th, Delta Upsilon hosted its annual Family Day. Over 250 people enjoyed
pulled pork sandwiches from Bluestem Bistro and listened to alumni Jeff Morris, the day’s
keynote speaker. We would like to thank brother Matthew Grosdidier ’18, our current
Executive VP of Public Relations for planning the event, and Jeff Morris for his keynote speech.
Intramural Football Championship
This year our flag football team won the fraternity league championship in a dominant
performance in the tournament finals over Beta Theta Pi. Almost all of DU came out to support
the Ducks in their final game. Some of the most excitement came in the semifinal game against
FIJI. New Member Jesse Patterson (’18) hauled in a hail mary from quarterback Conner Swope
(’18) to break a tie for a touchdown as time expired.

Alumni Steak Fry
Wednesday, October 28th marked the day of our annual alumni steak fry. Brother Nolan Allison
(’17) and his dad who is a cattle buyer for Tyson foods helped to provide two 80 pound boxes of
prime rib. The KSU meat judging coach as well as members of the team came on Tuesday night
to teach the new members how to cut the meat into steaks, and also grilled them the night of
the event. The house wants to extend a HUGE thank you to the alumni for providing the
financial support to host the event, as well as thank you the five alumni who attended. After the
dinner the alumni also joined the weekly chapter meeting.
Elections
Elections were held on Wednesday, November 11th this year. The house took them very
seriously as they started at 6:15 PM sharp and lasted until roughly 10:30. Along with elections
the chapter voted to create the VP of Philanthropy and assistant philanthropy positions to
replace internal and external philanthropy. VP of Philanthropy will be in charge of our Miss K-
State pageant, and assistant philanthropy will be in charge of getting guys to attend other greek
philanthropy events.

Pancake Feed
This year DU’s first philanthropy was Pankcakefest. The event was organized by the 2015
Internal Philanthropy chair Vincent Sylvester (’18), as well as video editing help created by
Russel Harp (’16). The ladies of Alpha Delta Pi were partners with us for the event. Students
from K-State could buy a ticket for $5 and come to DU from 10 PM until 2 AM and enjoy all they
could eat pancakes and sausages. The event raised a total $1,458 that all went to the Manhattan
Boys and Girls Club. A big thank you goes out to brother Vince Sylvester for all of his hard work
in planning one of our most successful pancake feeds ever, as well as all the men of DU who
volunteered their time to make the event a success.
Grades
DU’s all-house GPA for Fall of 2015 was 3.38, up from last spring (3.26) and was third best GPA
among all fraternities for the semester. Out of 116 men, 30 DU’s received a 4.0 GPA this past
semester. The pledge class of 2015 had a cumulative GPA of 3.44, which was second among all
fraternities’ new members.
From Left to right: Brothers Luke Wheeler (’17), Phillip Winter (’18), Michael O’Laughlin (’17), Austin Eck (’18), and Britt Becker (’18) sport the DU flag in Negril, Jamaica. They spent seven days doing service work for GSI.
Global Service Initiative - GSI
DU’s international philanthropy is the Global Service Initiative. This winter K-State DU had five
men travel to Jamaica for GSI. They went from January 2nd-January 9th. In the beginning of the
week they built a netball court on the south side of the island in Treasure Beach, and for the
remainder of the week they scraped paint and built the foundation for a dining pavilion in
Negril. “GSI was an incredibly moving experience in that it was very easy to see how much work
we got done. You could see the happiness on the kid’s faces when we told them what we were
building, and how much they appreciated it.” – Brother Austin Eck (’18)
Delta Upsilon and the Global Service Initiative. We give. We serve.
The Global Service Initiative (GSI) is unique and Delta Upsilon is proud to have developed this initiative. It serves a dual role in that it is not only the international philanthropy, but also the international service project of the Fraternity.
DU developed GSI because we realized it was important for the Fraternity to create experiences that prepare men for success in a new global environment. Developing global awareness and cultural competencies through our work is of significant importance. The idea for GSI came from a challenge from the Board. It was then presented to the Fraternity at the Leadership Institute in 2011 and the Undergraduate Advisory Board voted to approve GSI as the official philanthropy and service of DU.
We choose to create this experience in Jamaica because we have the relationships necessary to work with the local government, to connect with local schools and to engage with the local culture. We also have a domestic component through our Washington D.C. trips.

Closing
I want to close first by saying thank you for taking the time to read this. Our chapter does its
best to stay active within the K-State and Manhattan community as well as around the world
through events like GSI. None of the things that we do could truly be done without the support
we receive from our great alumni. Throughout this next term I hope I can incentivize even more
involvement from our alumni by giving you all more opportunities to enjoy DU. Be sure to check-
out the new Delta Upsilon Alumni Mentorship Program (more info will be sent in a separate e-
mail). And as always, feel free to contact me, or any of our exec members, with any questions,
concerns, or suggestions. Again we appreciate what you all do for us, and we are all looking
forward to a great 2016!
Dikaia,
Scott McGehee - VP of Alumni Relations
