Food 4 Kids nourishing our county’s future The Food 4 Kids program addresses weekend hunger in children who counselors have identified as being consistently hungry. Below is a list of items we need to make this program successful. The idea is to provide non refrigerated individual serving size nutritional snacks that young chil-dren can open and eat. Director’s Corner

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called

Stress; Working hard for something we love is called Passion.” Simon Sinek

This column can be a strug-gle…how can I begin to share all the good that happens in our Needs Council Commu-nity? Daily I am privileged to witness wonderful acts of kindness, visit with creative

and gifted volunteers, and re-port on our vital work to donors that make our mission possible. One of the most important as-pects of the NC’s work is pro-vided by our licensed counsel-ors. I treasure their reports of the great progress clients are making; as well as the smiles of children coming out of abusive situations as they regain security and happiness. Ultimately, my passion comes from the ability to see lives transformed by oth-ers who care and are willing to reach out their hand to make a difference. It is fueled by those of you who selflessly give of your-selves to feed this mission of

Helping Our Neighbors in Need.If you haven’t yet had the plea-sure of volunteering or donat-ing, the holiday season provides a whole host of opportunities… but don’t stop there – needs continue throughout the year. I encourage you to find a “fit” for your gifts and talents and share them. Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, do give attention to your pas-sion, we will all live in a bet-ter world when that happens.

Merry Christmas!

Cindy HeifnerExecutive Director

Continuing our efforts to meet needs as they arise, we will begin a new tax preparation assistance program in January, 2017. We found that our clients were spend-ing an exorbitant amount of their limited resources with for-profit tax preparers. The Volunteer In-come Tax Assistance Program (VITA) is a partnership with the IRS and San Antonio Coalition. We are their first rural partner!
