President’s Message Hello, and welcome to the 2016-2017 membership year. It is my privilege to serve as your President of the Lehigh Valley Dietetic Association (LVDA). The LVDA is one of six state affiliates of the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (PAND). Our membership includes Registered Dietitians/ Nutritionists, Registered Dietetic Technicians, dietetic interns, students, and retirees of the profession. Within our six counties reside about 300 PAND members, of which only 60-100 join our district affiliate each year. The work of our district affiliate relies on the contributions of our members. Volunteer leaders are the backbone of any professional organization and the commitment of members shows through the growth of the affiliate. Our community also relies on the knowledge and expertise of dietitians as the “food and nutrition experts.” The benefits of volunteering aren’t limited to the profession and organization. President’s Message

Hello, and welcome to the 2016-2017 membership year. It is my privilege to serve as your President of the Lehigh Valley Dietetic Association (LVDA). The LVDA is one of six state affiliates of the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (PAND). Our membership includes Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists, Registered Dietetic Technicians, dietetic interns, students, and retirees of the profession. Within our six counties reside about 300 PAND members, of which only 60-100 join our district affiliate each year.

The work of our district affiliate relies on the contributions of our members. Volunteer leaders are the backbone of any professional organization and the commitment of members shows through the growth of the affiliate. Our community also relies on the knowledge and expertise of dietitians as the “food and nutrition experts.”

The benefits of volunteering aren’t limited to the profession and organization. Members who participate benefit as well – providing opportunities to give back to the community and serve in functions outside of daily roles. Membership in the LVDA provides valuable connections to relevant people, resources and opportunities.

The LVDA is committed to providing you with value for your money for membership. We are working hard to provide members with tangible, tailored benefits and services to cater to the ever-changing professional needs and interests, skills, backgrounds and experience that span the entire profession. 2016 LVDA Board MembersMeet this year's members of the LVDA Board!

Amy Romberger, RD, LDN | SECRETARYAmy completed her Dietetic internship at Cedar Crest College, Spring 2015. After completing the internship I began work as the Registered Dietitian at Moravian Village of Bethlehem. She then went on to join the team of dietitians at Phoebe Ministries in Allentown.

Her active role in the Lehigh Valley Dietetic Association began during the end of the 2014-2015 term when she took over the Secretary position. Most recently, Amy is involved on the state level. Along LVDA president, Andrea Barnes, Amy represented Pennsylvania at the Public Policy Workshop 2016 in Washington D.C. Moving forward she is currently serving as one of the co-chairs for the awards ceremony for the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Meeting and Expo 2017. Amy enjoys being an active member of this association and I is looking forward to continuing her contributions.

Andrea Barnes, MS, RD, LDN, CSG, FAND | PRESIDENTAndrea has been practicing as registered dietitian for eight years and a member of the LVDA for ten years. After obtaining her BS in Nutrition from Cedar Crest College she completed an internship through the University of Delaware and obtained a rewarding role as Clinical Nutrition Manager with Cura

Hospitality. In 2012 she obtained certification as a specialist in gerontological nutrition and completed her master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition through the New York Institute of Technology. Later she obtained the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Food Allergy Certification, and is currently enrolled in a Doctorate of Health Administration program, with a focus on policy and advocacy. Last year she was also awarded the honor of being a Fellow of the AND, an honor approximately only 25 other registered dietitians possess, out of 4,000 in the state of PA.

Andrea has taught online nutrition courses, currently mentors nutrition students through the AND’s e-mentoring program, and acts as a preceptor for dietetic interns. She has been heavily involved in public policy efforts with a focus on educating legislators on the importance of Medical Nutrition Therapy and nutrition education for prevention of chronic disease. She continues her mission to build her skills for communicating with legislators and policy makers as a strong advocate for our profession.

Denise Frey, RDN, LDN | PUBLIC RELATIONS CHAIRDenise is a clinical dietitian at Blue Mountain Health System, and has served as the public relations chair for the past three years. Her role is to publicize the efforts of the public education events and opportunities our membership organizes or participates in within our six county area.

She also serves as a preceptor for the Cedar Crest College Dietetic Internship, and is an alum both of the undergraduate B.S. in Nutrition program and the CCC DI.

In her spare time, Denise enjoys gardening with her husband and canning and preserving the bounty of her family’s hard work. She also enjoy swimming, and caring for her pets including dog Lacey, cat Poncho and the flock of backyard chickens.

Jennifer Doane MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, ATC | REIMBURSEMENT CHAIR

Anyone in private practice or business understand how exciting it is to get paid!! As reimbursement chair, it is Jennifer's job to remain current with reimbursement practices for dietitians. She has previously served on various roles for LVDA such as President, COP chair, and SPRC liaison. She believes continued professional

development and involvement are one of the many keys to success., and looks forward to another positive year serving with a wonderful and diverse LVDA board.

Melissa (Savino) King, MS, RD, LDN | NOMINATING

CHAIRMelissa is currently working as a clinical dietitian for Guardian Eldercare in Bethlehem and Brodheadsville, PA. Melissa is excited to get new members involved in LVDA and spark their interest in seeking out board positions! In her free time, Melissa enjoys cooking up a storm in her test kitchen, attempting to reach

her goal of reading 52 books this year, and taking long walks with her mini goldendoodle Cayenne Pepper.

STATE NOMINATION COMMITTEEDalynn graduated from Cedar Crest College with a BS in Nutrition Sciences and completed her Dietetic Internship through Penn State at the Hershey Medical Center, focusing on Pediatric Nutrition. Currently, she is a Registered Dietitian for Early Intervention, UCP Central PA providing nutrition therapy for infants and toddlers.

Gina Hassick, MA, RD, LDN, CDE NCC | WEBSITE COORDINATOR

Gina Hassick, MA, RD, LDN, CDE NCC is a registered dietitian-nutritionist, certified diabetes educator and national certified counselor. Gina works as a renal dietitian for DaVita Dialysis and is the proud owner of her private practice, Eat Well with Gina Nutrition Counseling, which was the winner of the 2015 Lehigh Valley

Happening List. Her goal is not to put her clients on a diet, but rather to help them achieve a nutritious, healthy lifestyle that helps them manage and feel good about themselves while achieving their goals. Gina graduated with honors from The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ with a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marywood University in Scranton, PA with a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics and a minor in science. Laura Gallagher, RD, LDN | MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR

Laura's interest as a dietitian comes from working in hospital food service as a high school job where she learned how important nutrition is. She currently works as a clinical dietitian in a long-term care and rehab facility, as she has a very strong passion for geriatrics. Laura completed her undergraduate degree

and her dietetic internship at Cedar Crest College. She plans on starting a Masters in Health Science with a concentration in Nutrition through Cedar Crest College this fall. Laura is very excited to further her education in nutrition and health promotion. She's excited to continue her role with the LVDA as the Membership Coordinator and hopes to inspire others to join this wonderful organization.

Sherri Cirignano, MS, RD, LDN | CONTINUING EDUCATION CHAIR ELECT

Associate Professor, Department of Family & Community Health Sciences, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Warren County

Sherri Cirignano is a registered dietitian with a Masters of Nutrition from the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. Her clinical background is in oncology nutrition

and her teaching and research with Cooperative Extension has focused on nutrition and cancer prevention, functional foods programming, nutrition and physical activity needs for preschool-aged children, food safety and food insecurity.

Susan Adams, MS, RD, LDN, FAND | AND DELEGATESusan loves the field of Nutrition and Dietetics and believes everyone can feel better with a diet of good, wholesome food! Her goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian became a reality in 1981 when she graduated from Kent State University with a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and successfully passed

the Registered Dietitian examination. Along the way she has practiced dietetics in five different states in settings as varied as hospitals, long-term care facilities, mental health facilities, group homes, doctor’s offices, department stores, restaurants, large corporations with employee feeding, community agencies, and teaching at the university level. All of these varied venues involved people and their need for proper food and nutrition. Currently Susan is a Delegate representing Pennsylvania, specifically Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley. For 15 years she has taught nutrition and food science at La Salle University in Philadelphia. She is here to represent you and welcome your questions and ideas.

Tammy Zalokar, RD, LDN | NEWSLETTER EDITORTammy's current job adventures include working as a community health/clinical dietitian at St. Luke’s University Health Network ASC in Easton, a long term/rehab clinical dietitian for Moravian Village of Bethlehem, and various community focused RD projects through Advantage Nutrition & Wellness, LLC.

As the new editor she hopes to continue and build upon the great changes she's seen in our LVDA online newsletter. The newsletter is a great platform for professional interaction, career advancement, personal achievements, collegue recognition, and public policy. Content contributions are welcome at any time ... as well as any offbeat dietitian-related stuff you want to contribute! Tammy looks forward to working with everyone in the LVDA in a more meaningful role.

The Academy’s House of Delegates is busy gearing up for a

productive fall 2016 meeting on October 13-15 in Boston,

MA right before FNCE. The first day will include leadership

training entitled “Appreciative Inquiry” and the second day

will cover the mega-topic of “Prevention and Wellness.”

I will keep you all informed of this important work.

I am sure you have heard the good news by now that our

State of Pennsylvania membership is growing and we have

qualified for an additional delegate! We now have three

delegates that represent Pennsylvania in the House of

Delegates!

ADDITIONAL ACADEMY NEWS:

1. As the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics embarks on

its 100th anniversary in 2017, the organization is taking

this moment to chart a new vision for the future — a

Second Century built with an extraordinary commitment

to collaboration, a focus on service and an emphasis on

accelerating the progress toward solving the greatest food

and nutrition challenges of our time. Thus, creating a world

where people and communities flourish because of the

transformational power of food and nutrition. Now, as the

Academy is kicking off the Second Century initiative, is the

perfect opportunity to learn more about the Academy’s

history and the history of the profession through past

Journal of the Academy of Nutrition Dietetics articles

including “History Snapshot: Dietetics Student Experience

in the 1940s” or Academy publications Carry the Flame

and The First Fifty. Also, be on the lookout for upcoming

meetings or webinars to learn more about the Second

Century initiative.

2. The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and

Dietetics (ACEND®) is pleased to announce the release

of the 2017 Accreditation Standards. The standards and

crosswalks of the 2017 standards with the 2012 standards

are posted on the ACEND Website. Guidance information

for interpreting the standards and templates for reports

are being finalized and will be released within the next

few weeks. ACEND thanks all who participated in surveys

and provided input throughout the development of the

standards.

Any questions on the new standards can be sent to: acend@

eatright.org or call 312-899-4872, so we can respond to

them. Future editions of the monthly update will include

these questions and an ACEND response.

3. The House Leadership Team has requested that each

delegate identifies several “key informants” to assist us

when we have specific needs or questions about various

areas of practice in dietetics. Therefore, I am reaching

out to the LVDA membership and asking if there are any

members that would like to act as “key advising informants”

for me during this year. I will keep your name and contact

information and call on you for information when needed.

If you can help me out, please contact me using my contact

information found at the end of this article. Thanks so

much in advance!

4. As published in the July 20th Eat Right Weekly “Food

Technology Initiatives,” Congress just passed legislation

requiring the government “to establish a national disclosure

standard for bioengineered foods and for other purposes.”

The White House says President Obama will sign the bill,

which would pre-empt a Vermont law that took effect this

month. The bill, which passed by a 306 to 117 vote, directs

the U.S. Department of Agriculture to create a national

labeling standard that allows food producers to choose how

they want to disclose the presence of genetically modified

ingredients. Under the legislation, manufacturers will be

able to use text, symbols or a QR code that consumers must

scan with a smartphone to relay the information.

Currently, two active Academy initiatives related to food

technology, including genetically modifying foods, are

underway:

A manuscript describing the Evidence Analysis Library

systematic review titled “Advanced Technology of Food

Production” (currently available on the EAL). Its results will

be submitted for publication in the fall to the Journal of the

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

A white paper discussing genetically modified foods within

the food supply will be submitted for publication upon

completion.

5. Updates on the Membership Sponsorship Review

Committee’s work will be shared with Academy members

on: www.eatright.org/transparency.

RECIPE: Sunshine PicklesINGREDIENTSCucumbers

Garlic Cloves

Fresh Dill and/or Dill Seeds

Kosher Salt

Vinegar

Boiling Water

DIRECTIONSPlace approx. 1/4 - 1/3 cup of vinegar in each jar, adding 1

Tbsp kosher salt. Cut garlic cloves in half, and begin layering

ingredients in jars-- garlic, dill sprigs, and cucumbers (cut into

whatever pickle shape you desire). Fill jars to the top, packed

in fairly good. Pour boiling water over cucumbers until filled to

the top of the jar and put on lids. Jars will become hot-- using

a dishtowel, flip jars upside down to mix. Place outside in a

sunny location for at least 3 days (4-5 is ideal). Continue to mix

jars daily. Refrigerate at least one day before serving. ENJOY!

Nutritional Information: Calories: 9 Total fat 0.1g, Cholesterol: 0g, Sodium: 170mg, Potassium 88mg, Total Carbohydrates: 1.9g, Sugars: 0.5g, Protein 0.5 g

The Main Ingredient

RECIPE: Chicken and Peach SaladINGREDIENTS1/2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 1/2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

1 1/2 Tbsp minced shallots

2 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice

2 1/2 tsp maple syrup

3/4 tsp Dijon mustard

1/4 tsp kosher salt

1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

2 c shredded skinless, boneless

chicken breast

2 c sliced peeled peaches

1/2 c vertically sliced red onion

1/4 c chopped pecans, toasted

1 (5-oz) pkg gourmet salad greens

2 Tbsp crumbled goat cheese

DIRECTIONSCombine first 8 ingredients; stir with a whisk. Combine chicken and remaining ingredients

except cheese in a large bowl. Add vinegar mixture; toss gently. Sprinkle with goat cheese.

Public Policy Updates2016 Election News1. There are no local (municipal) elections on November 8. The most local seats are state house of representatives. One

House district, #183, is an “open seat”; the incumbent, Julie Harhart, is not running for reelection. She has been the

Majority Chair, Professional Licensure Committee, R-Northampton. One of the most fascinating house races is district

#131, currently held by Justin Simmons, R-Coopersburg in Lehigh County. His Democratic opponent is Joanne Jackson, a

write-in candidate.

2. What elections are we following? All of the state and federal legislative districts in LVDA’s area are posted in the Public

Policy webpage of the LVDA website.

3. One of the clearest sources of information about the races this year is Ballotpedia. https://ballotpedia.org/Pennsylvania_

elections_2016. From there, you can click on links to these races: President of the United States, U.S. Senate (Incumbent

Patrick Toomey vs Katie McGinty), U.S. House, Attorney General, Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, State Senate (odd #

districts), State House and State ballot measures and Calendar of elections and events.

4. The last day to register for the general election is October 11. This is the same deadline for changing your voter registration:

address, last name and party. If you are changing party, you must do so using the paper form and mail it to your county’s

voter registration office listed on the back of the form.

5. You may register online (https://www.pavoterservices.state.pa.us/Pages/VoterRegistrationApplication.aspx) or by picking

up a paper registration form at any municipal office or library. You may also print and fill out this pdf paper registration:

http://www.votespa.com/en-us/Documents/VRMA%20English.pdf. The closer you get to October 11, the better it is to

register online; the county voter registration offices will be backed up.

You may also find further information at the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania website at http://www.palwv.org/.

The League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania (LWVPA) is a citizen organization that never supports or opposes a candidate

or political party yet helps voters to learn about government issues and candidates.

Real Girls: Next Generation Leaders Event Needs Volunteers

Did you know that many women who are in politics were once a Girl Scout and/or member of the League of Women

Voters? Let’s add “and Registered Dietitian” to that trend! There is an RD in North Dakota who agrees. Karen K. Ehrens,

RD, is a member of the Hunger & Environmental Nutrition DPG, and she is a candidate for House District 32, Bismarck, ND

58501. Karen recently shared some insight.

What I still carry with me from Girl Scouts: That I didn’t ever think there was something I could not do because I was a

girl. I learned how to work at a job until I finished; one doesn’t always earn a badge from finishing a job, but I learned how

good it feels. I learned new things, and still do! Congratulations to Karen Ehrens. Here’s hoping Karen wins the office on

November 8.

Whether or not they are former Girl Scouts or League members, LVDA members will learn more about leadership by

volunteering for Real Girls: Next Generation Leaders will be a half- day conference (9am-12pm or 1-4pm) at Cedar Crest

College fulfilling some steps of the Citizen badges for 4th-12th grade girls. The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County

and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) are joining forces to put on this event. Men and women who are local

leaders are receiving invitations to be a Workshop Speaker or a Workshop Presenter with an interactive activity. Joanne

Jackson, a former Girl Scout and League member who is on the ballot as a Democratic write-in candidate for House District

#131, has already RSVP’d “yes.” Topics will include: being an active citizen, looking into laws, planning a campaign, exploring

voter technology and getting out the vote, how to make group decisions, how to develop compromise, understanding the

election process, how to interview a candidate or office holder, and how to understand public policy issues and gather

Election InformationMore from Karen Ehrens

The League of Women Voters is such an important group! We work to help voters gain knowledge about candidates and

issues to make an informed vote! I have served on a committee that helps to write questions for candidate forums, so it

has helped me know what to ask and how to answer.

On Monday, September 12, Dr. Christopher Borick, Professor of Political Science and pollster at Muhlenberg College spoke

about the election at the Superior Restaurant in Emmaus. The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County set up this Hot

Topics Dinner for members and the public.

The League has invited Morning Call columnist Bill White to speak about the results of the election at 11:30 am on

November 14, the Monday after the November 8 election. This will be a return to the League’s Hot Topic Luncheon format,

still located at the Superior Restaurant.

Check the schedule of the Local League in your county for similar speaking events. Actively carrying out our public

policy initiatives will give you similar experiences. I am the ring; you are the gems.

We are setting up appointments in district offices of four officeholders who we have not met with in years: Senator

Argall and Representatives Knowles, Emrick, Goodman. Jen Doane and I set up the appointments and recruit constituents

among our membership. We accompany the constituent(s) to the appointments and moderate the conversation. In a way,

we are the ring and the constituent(s) are the gem.

On August 2, we met with David G. Argall, State Senator, 29th District, Majority Policy Chairman at his office in Hamburg

Borough Hall. Craig J. Lutz, Legislative Assistant, and Christine M. Verdierief of Staff also attended.

Constituents attending were Linda S. Eck Mills, MBA, RDN, LDN, FADA and Abby Owsinski, RD, LDN, Clinical Nutrition

Manager, Schuylkill Health Pottsville, PA. Linda Mills has many roles: Corporate Dietitian for Community Education

Centers, Nutrition & Foodservice Professional for Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville – (formerly Dietary

Manager,) Per Diem RD for Heartland Hospice and Home Care, and Career coach, international speaker, author for Dynamic

Communication Services.

I set up the appointment and accompanied the group. Before the meeting, Linda and Abby completed a “bio form”

and added additional information about the route to their professional life. The written biographies were included in

the leave-behind packet. I also included the completed bio form from Avery N. Yoder, B.S. in Nutrition, concentrations in

Dietetics and Sports Nutrition. So, even though she couldn’t attend, I was able to point out Avery’s bio to the Senator.

Both constituents shared what they did and their path to becoming an RD. Abby resides in Schuylkill County and became

a clinical nutrition manager during her first year as an RD. She also knew the Senator and some of his family members

through her family. Linda resides in Berks County and shared five business cards and described each. She spoke about

her work with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Senator Argall is a big supporter of the Boy Scouts. Jan Little pointed out

relevant parts of the leave-behind packet. Sen. Argall’s main question was his impression that Diabetes seemed to be

spreading. Linda spoke about why Schuylkill County has a high incidence. Jan Little discussed high incidence among

different demographic groups. We explained the reason, including obesity. We shared frustration that pre-DM and obesity

are not covered by Medicare. Jan pointed out 2-page summary of the federal bills the Academy is supporting.

We offered to be a resource in the near future. The Senator patted the packet and replied that we gave him a lot to think

about. After the meeting, I invited other PAND members who are constituents of Senator Argall to complete a bio form.

So far, I have heard from one member.

Andrea M. Barnes, MS, RD, CSG, LDN, FAND and I accompanied Laura

Gallagher, RD, LDN to the office of Representative Knowles, R-124,

in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County on August 15. The Representative is

a member of the Professional Licensure Committee, one of the key

committees for us. It is considered to be one of four more powerful

standing committees. Both Laura and Andrea wrote terrific bios. Laura

is a Registered Dietitian for ManorCare Health Services in Allentown,

and for Fresenius Kidney Care in Whitehall. Andrea is Clinical Nutrition

Manager, Cura Hospitality, LLC, mainly at Phoebe Allentown Healthcare

Center.

We spent a lot of our time redirecting the Representative back to what a

RD is, does and how to become one and remain one. A Type II diabetic,

he has been working with a health coach; he asked what his credentials

meant. He did give us some sage advice about HB 1282, the Truth in

Advertising Bill can be voted out of the Health Committee. We will be

sure to maintain contact with Representative Knowles if the House

Professional Licensure Committee considers a bill we support.

Jen Doane scheduled an appointment with Representative Emrick, R-137,

for August 22 in his office in Nazareth, Northampton County. Jeanne

Smith, RDN, LDN is the constituent. Representative Emrick is the Vice-

Chair of the Professional Licensure Committee.

I plan to make an appointment with Representative Goodman, D-123,

for his office in Mahanoy City, Schuylkill County. The Representative is

the Democratic Caucus Administrator.

Will we make appointments for additional PA legislators? Yes. After

the November election, we will make an appointment with the winning

candidates for open seats and contested elections, including U.S. Senate

seat currently held by Patrick Toomey. We can certainly meet with re-

elected incumbents. Statewide, almost 50% of incumbents are running

unopposed.

However, we will end up contacting ALL of our 40 legislators. We will ask

all members to send “congratulatory letters” to the winning candidates

and even those who did not run this time like U.S. Senator Casey and

PA senators in even-numbered districts (John T. Yudichak, D-14, Patrick

Toomey, R-16, and Lisa Boscola, D-18.)

At the end of November and early in 2017, we will note what leadership

roles and committee memberships involving local legislators in the PA

Assembly. We particularly want to know who is taking Julie Harhart’s

place as the Majority Chair, Professional Licensure Committee.

What’s New for 2016-2017?This fall the LVDA will be unveiling a new website. Our website is a critical tool for members to access the many great resources and useful information we have available. The design has a cleaner, sleeker look and is sure to be a welcomed change that will help to launch the LVDA into the future.

In addition, the LVDA quarterly newsletter will be hosting a number of new and exciting sections that include more focus on member achievements and participation. If you attend any nutrition-related event this term, please forward pictures to editor, Tammy Zalokar, that can be shared to display member involvement and unique talents. Lastly, the LVDA will continue to utilize direct payment options through the use of PayPal to make it easier to pay membership dues and register for events.

Million Clicks for Million Hearts The Allentown Health Bureau recently launched a new walking program- Million Clicks for Million Hearts. Million

Hearts is a national initiative created by the Department of Health & Human Services, and the Centers for Disease

Control & Prevention. Its goal is to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes by the year 2017. The City joined

this initiative and created the Million Clicks for Million Hearts walking campaign. Increasing physical activity is

just one step you can take to fight against heart disease!

This walking program uses unique “click to walk” technology whereby program participants receive a free keytab upon

registering for the program. The keytabs are synced to multiple JobClocks which have been placed at walking paths around

the city at the following locations:

• LIFETRAIL IN CEDAR CREEK PARKWAY: Entrance on Honochick Drive

• TREXLER PARK: Entrance on Springhouse Road, between Tilghman Street and Broadway

• ANDRE REED PARK: Entrance off Irving Street, between Union Blvd and Hanover Avenue

• LEHIGH PARKWAY: Robin Hood Bridge parking lot

• HAMILTON MILE: "Click-in" station at Hamilton & 9th Streets

Melissa (Savino) King participated in a Senior Expo at the Stroud Mall this past spring. Seniors were educated on the benefits of eating plant-based proteins while helping themselves to a sample of black bean salsa!

Amy Romberger participated in career day at McKinley Elementary School in Allentown, PA. The event focused on "STEM" (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) careers. She spoke to six groups of 3rd-5th graders. She enjoyed hearing the kids tell about their nutrition-related activities, including the school garden and associated club. They also got bug-eyed when they heard the amount of hours the internships require!
