Special Sections like Fall Fashion can’t happen without a fair amount of help: community support,

volunteer models, willing retailers and most importantly, advertising dollars. Since joining the team at Wednesday Journal Publications I have been amazed at the community partnerships that develop and thrive because of local journalism. The ability to be creative, and develop those significant relationships is all fueled by advertising dollars.

Please support our advertisers, retailers, and organizations that helped make this section a success.

Much thanks to our Oak Park Public Library

staff for the extended use of the Maze Library Branch. The decorations from the summer reading program made our children’s fashion feature look hip and “spot on” in terms of trend. The walkway and gardens were beautiful on the

day of the photo shoot. I’m sure we need to thank a buildings and grounds manager someplace for the splendor.

A change in the weather on one of our photo shoot days meant that we had to scramble last minute to find a new location. Our own Pleasant Home, a historic property of the Park District of Oak Park, was a fantastic last minute choice. The Pleasant Home Foundation staff was quick to say yes to our last minute request. And the

lighting was perfect for a porch photo shoot. Thanks so much.

Another round of applause goes to the Murphy’s for letting us park our homecoming-themed photo session right at Poor Phil’s in their outdoor seating area. I’m not sure if knowing them for most of my life is the reason they said yes, or if it’s just that they love the Wednesday Journal, but their willingness to take part is much appreciated.

Retailers:So many retailers were willing

to let us “borrow” items for this fashion feature. We couldn’t feature all willing retailers simply because of time constraints. My sincere apologies to folks we didn’t reach.

This is not an easy thing to say yes to: Retailers say goodbye to expensive product for up to a week, hoping that we are responsible enough to bring all items back brand new.

Thanks to these retailers for participating (in no particular order):

Finally , but not least of all, a major thanks

needs to go to the staff at Effigy Salon and Jen at 1148 Cosmetics. It’s just not fashion if our models don’t look perfectly coiffed. And we really couldn’t have done this without the volunteer hours involved from these folks. On each photo shoot day it felt like we invaded Effigy - and they were always wonderful, courteous, professional and talented.

MORNINGS MAZEAT

The quaint brick exterior & lush floral gardens of the Maze Library in Oak Park provide a perfect back drop for our “Weekend Getaway.” Whether a day trip antiquing to nearby Michigan City, or hopping on a plane for a two night excursion, check out our list of packable must-haves.

On Sara, we paired an essential chambray ‘work shirt’ with leopard patterned red skinny jeans, and a short tan boot.

All manner of prints are on trend this fall. It's easy to mix geometrics, florals, polka dots and stripes when you use a grounding color to tie everything together. As we did here with Sara, pairing a southwest motif sweater with a perfect ensemble for exploring.

Corine wears a floral dress in green tones, a big color trend for fall. For a daytime look, jean leggings were donned with a cool leather trimmed, Italian trench coat. Quirky details are the stars here. When fun two-toned Mary Jane pumps are added, she is ready for dinner out.

Another seasonal shift are structured handbags. An over-the-shoulder strap brings comfort together with stylish color blocking.

A striking combination of bold hues and abstract prints blended with the right accessories are an expert mix of the seasons most versatile trends.

Juliana sports a 50’s inspired day dress, in graphic printed, vibrant orange - continuing to enjoy its status as the ‘It’ color. The wrap dress never fails to look good on every body type, and can become instantly cool when mixed with a hint of toughness, under a cotton motorcycle jacket. This eye catching over-sized silver jewelry completes the look.

Myra is absolutely stunning in a fanciful tiered, silk blend frock in bright raspberry & matching dark magenta piped suede stiletto pumps. Her opulent look is complete with a layered, knitted mink sweater in shades of bordeaux, and luxe pearl & diamonte baubles.

Scott looks razor sharp in this fall's wardrobe essential: a distressed brown leather sport coat, one of the most functional and flattering pieces a man can own. Cozy chenille scarf in wine shades, dark jeans & suede boots never fail to look sharp.

Going to Oaktober Fest this year? Maybe packing a fall picnic for a concert at Millenium Park? Either way, plan to look chic doing it.

Vintage inspired or actual vintage, the look of the '60s never seems to go out of style. Try mixing one of these fall trends into your fashion line-up: patterned tribal details, luxe fabrics, loads of luscious color & mixed metals.

We had a blast dressing Skylar in a fabulous printed maxi skirt in an autumnal pallet, black stretchy t-shirt & cool blue cowboy boots. For an earthy touch we paired a geode pendant necklace with an armload of stackable gemmed and leather bracelets. To complete her boho chic ensemble we picked this stunning fur vest—a necessary splurge to be sure.

Her twin sister, Sydney shows us how to wear color with a psychedelic print stretch t-shirt, layered under a metal-studded military style jacket. We bring in the volume of this menswear piece by belting it, to emphasize her waist and play up the savvy wide leg trouser jean. Fringe is not for hippies this fall —it's hot right now. We pulled in fringe with Sydney's back-pack style handbag.

This summer, the team from James Anthony Salon and Spa in River Forest went on their annual

trip to the 2012 Paul Mitchell Gathering in Las Vegas. The theme this year was I’MPOSSIBLE, emphasizing the limitless potential of individuals and teams to unleash their creativity and strive for excellence.

Working with some of the top leaders in the beauty industry, Team James Anthony got a jump on the latest new ideas, techniques and products. Over the two day event, the Team enjoyed inspirational main stage presentations, along with intensive personalized educational seminars, classes and phenomenal hands-on workshops. Network, party, play and learn—the Team took full advantage of all the possibilities!

Tina Salerno, co-owner/master stylist of James Anthony Salon, along with stylists Lindsay DeYoung and Victoria Ulis, benefited from the artistic workshops featuring advanced hair cutting, hair color, men’s grooming, style and texture. The first day ended with a party celebrating the Glamor of Tinseltown. Harkening back to Hollywood’s Golden Era or invoking today’s celebrity trends, the James Anthony Team dialed up their favorite red carpet styles. Representing the Team at the Gathering’s

business seminars were Jim Salerno, co-owner of James Anthony Salon, and Frank Zito, admissions leader at Paul Mitchell The School Chicago. These seminars, designed exclusively for salon owners and managers, offered interactive training with expert advice on growing the salon and maintaining excellence in customer service.

Day Two of the Gathering started with a motivational general session hosted by Winn Claybaugh, dean and founder of the Paul Mitchell Schools, and author of the book Be Nice or Else! Claybaugh along with John Paul DeJoria, CEO of Paul Mitchell, Angus Mitchell, Co-owner of John Paul Mitchell Systems, and Steve and Terri Cowan, coaches in the beauty industry are all partners with Jim and Tina Salerno at both Paul Mitchell The School Chicago and Paul Mitchell The School Escanaba.

Now the Team is back in River Forest and they are excited to share what they’ve learned and introduce to you the latest techniques and products. “We are especially excited about ‘Curls’” Tina Salerno said, “and we’re looking forward to the amazing opportunity of working with all of our ‘curlfriends’ out there in need of special attention to their lovely locks.” Also exciting is the new Paul Mitchell “N+” series

color line, designed to cover and battle the most resistant gray hair.

James Anthony Salon and Spa is located at 7607 Lake Street in River Forest. To reserve your James Anthony experience call 708.366.3100 and a salon coordinator will be happy to assist you.
