Through no fault of their own, thousands of animals come to us hoping for a chance at a new life. During Hurricane Harvey, we experienced a huge surge in the number of animals seeking shelter, but we did our best to take in as many as possible. Because of this, we need YOUR help. By taking home a new furry friend, you are also saving their life. When you adopt, you earn a special place in our hearts and theirs. We hope to see you at our rescue-a-pet event!

Our main goal at this time is to help reunite animals and their owners that got separated during Hurricane Harvey, as well as trying to find homes for those fur babies that were left behind. Additionally, we help raisemoney to take care of the animals we have housed here so that they can live long, happy lives.

The Houston SPCA has hundreds of animals available for adoption every day. And new animals arrive daily. There are cats, kittens, puppies and dogs. Purebreds. Mixed-breeds. Someone is waiting for you here!

The Houston SPCA has hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time to make a difference in the lives of our shelter animals and our community. Without these caring individuals we could not continue our mission to promote the commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation.

REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER

• All potential volunteers must be at least 16 years old at time of application

• Must be able to commit to 8 hours per month for at least 6 months

• Pay a non-refundable application fee of $40 for adults or $25 for youth (16-17 years old)

• All applicants 18 and up must complete a background screening.

• Must have consistent access to internet and email

• Must have the willingness to complete all necessary tasks within a specified volunteer area

• Must be able to work well with others as all volunteer positions work directly with staff, volunteers and the public
