Cultural Club Ms. Kelly
Cultural Club promotes culture through the South HS Community. Club members participate in cultural days, bake sales, and many school events. We do charity work for international causes and we plan an International Night at the end of the year. We meet twice monthly. Anyone with an interest in other cultures is welcome to join.

The club will meet regularly and discuss current events.
DECA: An Association of Marketing Students Mr. Greaven
DECA is a student organization that has over 200,000 members internationally. It
is designed to help students learn about careers in marketing, advertising,
administration and business ownership. Students are involved in individual and
team competitions, as well as on-campus activities and community service. DECA
is a great organization for students to gain a head start towards a business career.
Fishing Club Mr. Barsamian
Students will discuss the art of fishing and teach others this life skill. Students will
share techniques and methods concerning fishing. Students are responsible for
their own fishing licenses and will meet on their own to go fishing after school.
General Organization (Student Council) Mr. Paul
The General Organization is composed of the Student Executive Council. The G.O. serves to “promote student participation in democratic procedures, improve student-faculty relations, encourage and protect responsible student management of student affairs and activities, continuously maintain school spirit and morale, and ensure communication among various student organizations within the school The Executive Council is composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the General Organization, and a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of each class.

Academic League Mr. Bachman
The Academic League plays teams from other Rockland high schools each season.
The competition is a Jeopardy-like academic contest to see which team can gain
the highest score in a limited time. Our team has been very successful in past
years.
Ambassadors Mr. Bonsignore
The Ambassadors provides students with a vocal and musical outlet outside of the
classroom to showcase their talent. Rehearsals are held weekly and performances
are held during and outside of the school day.
American Sign Language Club (ASL) Ms. Hughes
The mission of our ASL club is to promote the exchange of ASL with an
acknowledgement and respect for Deaf culture. The goals are to develop and
enhance students receptive and expressive ASL skills and increase awareness and
knowledge of Deaf culture.
Anime Club Ms. Weber
The Anime Club provides the opportunity for a weekly gathering of students who
love anime, manga, and other aspects of Japanese contemporary culture and
language. We learn about different styles of art and animation through watching
anime and even creating our own anime and manga. We meet every Tuesday and
all are welcome.
Anybody Can Dance (ABCD) Ms. Schiano-Trizzino
The ABCD club teaches simple dance moves to anyone who joins. We want to
make dance fun for everyone. No audition is required.
Arcadia Ms. DiSavino & Mr. Sandomir
Arcadia is South High School’s art and literature magazine. The magazine staff
spends hours sorting, editing, discussing, and arranging the work of South’s
talented artists and writers. All submissions and new writers are welcome.
Art Club (est. 1995) “Expressions” Ms. Worum
The Art Club “Expressions” is open to any students interested in the visual arts and
crafts to explore various projects beyond the classroom. The club meets every
Wednesday and new members are always welcome.
ASMA Dr. Gavioli
The American Scholastic Mathematics Association sponsors a monthly math league
contest for any students who enjoy problem-solving. A 35-minute contest takes
place monthly during extended homeroom. Calculators are allowed.
Assets Leadership Team Ms. Solar
Join South’s Assets Leadership Team which is dedicated to teaching students
positive qualities and behaviors that help influence the choices they make both in
school and their community. Activities include Asset Training, Assets executive
council, school community events and creative and fun community service.
Best Buddies Ms. Steinberg & Mr. Login
“Best Buddies” is a social peer mentoring program that partners developmentally
disabled students and their mainstream peers in a community based, social non-
academic setting. The program is designed to foster social interaction and
integration in a non-threatening environment. Students can sign up with Ms.
Steinberg. There are between four and seven events/meetings/activities during
the school year and participation will take place primarily after school at selected
places within our immediate community.
Centerstage Ms. Imperial-DiNardo
Centerstage inspires young theatre artists to be thoughtful, creative and confident.
Centerstage produces two main stage productions a year: a fall drama and a spring
musical. There are also small student-run productions, workshops and Broadway
field trips. Opportunities exist in performing, designing, producing and beyond.
It’s called a play for a reason, so come have some fun with us!

Chess Club Ms. Nolan This club allows new as well as experienced Chess players to interact and improve as Chess players. At the same time, members will be able to make new friends.

GSTA/Gay Straight Transgender Alliance Ms. Seery & Ms. Goodman
The GSTA is a student-led group which exists to promote equality, diversity and acceptance. We strive to create a safe and judgement free environment for all students who support and identify with the LGBTQ (lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer) community. The GSTA will accomplish this by creating a support network for LGBTQ individuals and by fighting discrimination and promoting equal treatment through education, awareness and advocacy. The GSTA meets every extended homeroom as well as after school in Ms. Seery’s office, Room 321A.
Helping Humanity Mr. Pritts
Our mission is to spread awareness of those less fortunate and to get students involved with our community. Each month, we will collect different items for those who are in need (food drive, toys, clothing, etc. for local organizations).
HOSA Club (Health Occupations Students of America) Ms. Novak
HOSA is an international student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and Health Science Technology Education Division of ACTE (Association for Career and Technical Education). The goals of the HOSA club include but are not limited to: developing an understanding of how careers in health science work, promoting career opportunities within the health sciences and helping club members learn essential skills such as leadership, dedication, communication, and cooperation.
Interact Ms. Dwyer
Interact is a community service organization where students visit nursing homes, engage in fund raising activities, and work with the local rotary club. All are welcome.

Italian Club Ms. Riccioli
The Italian Club offers an opportunity for students who take Italian to meet outside
of class to socialize and for enrichment of their knowledge of the Italian people,
community, language and their culture. The club meets twice a month. All
members with an interest in the Italian culture are welcome to join.
Jazz Band Mr. Fogarty
Membership in Jazz Band is through audition only. Several concerts are presented
throughout the year, including performances in Middle and Elementary schools.
Jazz Band rehearses Tuesday evenings from 6-8.
Junior State of America (JSA) Ms. Younghans & Mr. Hurley
Junior State of America (JSA) is the largest nationally student-run organization. JSA is a club for all who have an interest in politics, debate, and current issues. Meetings are based around interesting debates and innovative thought talks. Students attend three JSA conventions throughout the year in Boston, Massachusetts, Washington, D.C. and Stamford, Connecticut.
Knitting and Crochet Club Ms. Solar
Learn how to crochet, knit and create projects (scarves, mini-blankets, etc.) to donate to charities. For experienced and non-experienced students, community service hours available.
Korean Pop Culture Club Ms. Young
The purpose of this club is to bring students together that share a common interest in Korean music, dramas and movies. Everyone will be able to participate in fun activities related to the Korean music industry.
Language Club TBD
To help children in the district’s elementary schools learn about and understand other languages and cultures. High schoolers gain experience working with and teaching children while reinforcing their own language skills.
Mad About Mu Dr. Gavioli
Mad About Mu is the official newsletter of Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. It provides students with information on math related activities within the school, math department activities, biographies on famous mathematicians, careers, mathematical puzzles and more.
Marching Band Mr. Fogarty
Marching Band performs at football games and local parades. Rehearsals are on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6-7:30, and performance is Saturdays 10-5 during
the season.
Math League Mr. Lee
Beginning in the fall, students with an interest in math can compete around the
county in Math League. The meets include a section for groups and individuals.
Minority Student Union (MSU) Ms. Younghans
This club is designed for the entire CHSS student body in celebration of African
American and Latino Achievements and contributions to American society and
culture. The club encourages tolerance and acceptance by exploring different
aspects of culture.
Mock Trial Mr. Barsamian & Ms. Costa
Mock Trial is an opportunity for students to learn about trial techniques used by
lawyers in the courtroom. Students have the chance to take on the roles of
attorneys and witnesses in “mock” civil and criminal legal issues.
Model U.N. Ms. Young
This club meets regularly to learn about world issues facing the United Nations.
Students have the opportunity to simulate UN committees and practice the roles
of UN delegates from member countries.
National History Day Competition Ms. Young
National History Day is a program in which students research a historic topic using
primary and secondary sources. They present their findings in the form of an
exhibit, documentary, paper or performance in competition at the regional, state,
and national level.
Peer Leader Program—World of Difference Ms. Seery & Ms. Gordon
The World of Difference Peer Leader Program seeks to provide students with the
skills to be leaders, role models, and social activists who are actively engaged in
combating prejudice and discrimination. As peer leaders, students assume
leadership roles to help create a respectful and inclusive environment. Peer
leaders do so by facilitating classroom presentations and activities for South’s 9th
graders on issues such as prejudice, discrimination, diversity, acceptance, anti-
bullying and anti-violence. To become a peer leader, 10th and 11th grade students
must apply and interview.
Peer Tutoring Mr. Ludwig
The purpose of Peer Tutoring is for junior and senior students to tutor other
Clarkstown students. Peer Tutors are paid $11 an hour. Eligibility is based on good
grades and teacher recommendations.
Photography Club Mr. Tomaselli
The Photography Club provides students the opportunity to share and discuss their
work, explore the digital format of photography, and continue their exploration of
the traditional format
Problem Challenge Ms. Pritts
The Problem Challenge is a weekly contest, September through June. A new
problem is posted every Monday of a full week of school in the Math Office and
the copies remain available until Friday of the same week (solutions are due at the
end of the school day on Friday). Any student enrolled in a math or computer
science class at South High School may pick up a copy of the problem and work on
a solution during the 5-day period. Solutions must then be time-stamped and
submitted into the solutions box in the Math Office. The solutions are checked
and the student who was the first to correctly solve the problem challenge has
his/her name displayed in the showcase in the math hallway and also receives a
certificate signed by the principal.
Radio Club Ms. Fishkin
Have you ever wanted to host your very own radio show? Be a part of the very
first internet radio station in Rockland County! Members will be the first to learn
all about how a radio station operates. Students will also dive into the upcoming
world of podcasting, creating episodes they can share with their friends, and meet
on air radio personalities! Come join our radio club team today!
Recognizing Anxieties and Depression (RAAD) Ms. Solar
RAAD meets to educate students and community about anxieties, depression and
how to offer support. This is a student led initiative which provides resources,
intervention, classroom presentations and community outreach.
Robotics Club TBD
Our mission is to provide high school students with an opportunity to explore
technology through the construction of a robot for the First Robotics Competition.
We promote teamwork, advance engineering, mechanical skills and friendly
competition.
Science-New Jersey Science League Ms. Bekiaris
Seven teams of students from each science area take part in this academically challenging competition.
Science Olympiad Mr. Scaglione
Students participate in 18 events that include all areas of science and technology.
Science-Physics Bowl Mr. Bachman
Students take part in a nationwide competition challenging their knowledge of physics.
Science Research Mr. Wedvik
Science research supports and guides students through independent authentic research projects. The goal is to produce a science research written report to be submitted to national science research competitions.
Social Skills Group Ms. Goodman & Ms. Schiano-Trizzino
Students will engage in games and role play activities to sharpen their social skills.
Sports Debate Club Mr. Pritts Students will debate current sports topics each week.
String Quartet Music Dept. The String Quartet is a Traveling Chamber Music Ensemble that represents South
throughout the county and state. The quartet repertoire includes classical chamber
music pieces, traditional fiddling, and some folk music. All members of the CHSS
Orchestra are eligible to participate in these chamber ensembles based on ability
and instrumentation.
Strive for Spirit TBD
Strive for Spirit provides fun and enriching art and music activities for the Spirit and
Strive students. We will also fund-raise for special education charities.
Superintendent’s Advisory Council Ms. Tarantino
The Student Advisory Council (SAC) was created to provide direct communication
between high school students, the superintendent, and members of his staff
regarding issues that directly impact the student body. It is the only student
organization which functions at the district level. It is comprised of twelve
students from each of the high schools. There are three students from each grade
level. SAC meets once a month at District Office to discuss various topics and work
to resolve issues facing the school district. This coalition acts as a vital link in
voicing student opinions to the educators and administrators of the Clarkstown
School District.
Troubadours Mr. Bonsignore
Troubadors is South’s select vocal ensemble. This group is by audition only and
members are strongly encouraged to participate in chorus as well. We perform
various styles of music but often focus on fun acappella versions of current popular
music. The group performs at various events throughout the county over the
course of the school year and rehearses after school once per week for 2 hours.
T.S.A. Mr. Kelvas
The Technology Student Association enhances personal development, leadership, and career opportunities in STEM, whereby members apply and integrate these concepts through intracurricular activities, competitions, and related programs
T.V. Club/CCSD TV Ms. Fishkin
Do you ever watch movies and ask, “How do they do that?” CCSD-TV, South’s
Television Production Studio/Digital Center, provides club members with an
opportunity to participate in pre-production, production and post-production of
student created works. Activities include script writing, filmmaking and editing.
This club will introduce you to the exciting world of television and video
production!
Ultimate Frisbee Club Ms. Bentley
The Ultimate Frisbee Club offers students the opportunity to exercise, relieve
stress and socialize while playing games of Ultimate Frisbee after school. This club
meets once a week, weather permitting.
United Service Organization Ms. Montague
South’s USO Club is an organization that supports military service members and
military families in order to commemorate their sacrifices and honor them for their
dedication to our country.
V.A.A.S.A Ms. Solar
Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse is a program in which varsity athletes
make a commitment not to use tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. The athletes are
trained to go into the elementary and middle schools to provide presentations on
the dangers of use of substances. The goal of the program is education and the
power of positive example.
Viking Connection Ms. Keenan & Ms. Solar
Viking Connection is a Freshman Mentoring Program that connects Mentors
(juniors and seniors) with the incoming freshman class to help with their transition
from middle to high school. Mentors provide freshman with resources and
strategies to help them become active and successful members of the South
community. Mentors help run Freshman Orientation in August, facilitate in-class
activities once a month during semester one, and are available to their assigned
group of freshman throughout the year as a positive “go-to” person. Interested
juniors and seniors must attend monthly training meetings throughout the first
semester.
Viking Spiked Shoe Track Club Mr. Modafferi
The Viking Spiked Shoe Track Club is especially for students and staff who enjoy
running and who are looking for assistance in designing a personal running
program. The idea of the club is to provide assistance for both experienced and
new runners alike. Members will find support from other members and track
coaches at South High School.
Viking Voice Mr. Harrigan & Ms. Gorden
The Viking Voice is Clarkstown South’s newspaper. South students can always
count on getting only the truth from the Viking Voice. All students are welcome.

Women’s Awareness Club (WAC) Ms. More
WAC promotes equality towards all genders and teaches young women to
embrace who they are. Discussions include women’s issues. Everyone is welcome

If you’re good at taking photos, writing copy, meeting deadlines and are super-organized, yearbook is for you! It’s a significant commitment of time, during and after school, but the rewards are enormous: you are creating memories for your classmates that will last a lifetime. Meeting times vary depending on deadlines. Computer knowledge is a plus.
Youth Against Cancer Ms. Faust & Ms. Franco
Youth Against Cancer is an extended group of the American Cancer Society.
Members participates in a number of activities to sponsor fund raising efforts.

The purpose of the club is to raise money to benefit Hospice of Rockland.
