Single Room

Fall Weave 2016 will be held August 25 - 27, 2016 at the Bergamo Center in Dayton, Ohio. The new location is only two miles from the previous location.

Holding our weave at this retreat center offers us the opportunity to have classes,

meals and lodging under one roof in a quiet, peaceful setting.

Bergamo Center has 61 modern, motel-like bedrooms with private bathrooms. There are 26 single rooms (1 single bed) and 35 double rooms (2 single beds). Rooms are equipped with

clock radios but do not have TV's or telephones. Overnight guests enjoy daily maid and linen service and have full control of the bedroom air-conditioning and/or heat.

Registration is limited to 100 so get yours in now!

Please note the change in dates for the Fall Weave 2016. The original dates announced were chosen before we knew that Wright State University was sponsoring the first

Presidential Debate of 2016 on that weekend. Labor Day and the Air Force Marathon are also in September so venues and motel rooms are unavailable in September.

Courtyard

Double Room

Meals are served buffet style in the dining room.

The focal of the basket is the eye catching wrap, another great technique. Bring a small packer, along with your regular weaving tools.

This beautiful little basket is a wonderful introduction to weaving with painted paper. It is woven on a mold with start stop rows so shaping is a snap. A layered rim is lashed with waxed linen, and a simple embellishment completes the basket. Teacher will provide a wide choice of paper (painted and precut) as well as button and shell embellishments. Teacher will also demonstrate how to make a simple paper embellishment. Students will make two baskets. Students should bring sharp scissors, small bent packer and a #22 tapestry needle.

Teacher's Biographies

Gail Hutchinson

Annetta Kraayeveld

Annetta's home and studio are full of baskets, the collecting started when she was a child; the weaving , in 1994 when she found a book and begged a lesson. She is still obsessed with baskets and finds great satisfaction working with her hands, merging an age old art form with the contemporary world. Creating functional art pieces is her passion.

Barb McNally

Char Ciammaichella

Char has been weaving for over 20 years and teaching for the last 12 years. She weaves mainly with reed and loves playing with color placement to get many different and interesting patterns. She teaches at home, at guild gatherings, and many weaving conventions. She loves teaching and passing down the weaving techniques to all. She has opened her website www.charsweavings.com to purchase basket kits and basket related jewelry, and is constantly trying new techniques, colors and ideas! She has been the coordinator for WinterWeave Conference the last 20 years.

My beading obsession began when I was in junior high with a purchase of some seed beads from the local Ben Franklin. I started stringing "love beads," then moved onto bead weaving. The beading took a back seat when I started weaving baskets, but soon came back with a vengeance. My work room now overflows with basket reed, handles, delica beads, and too many beading books and basket

When not weaving, Annetta is teaching, which she enjoys as much as weaving. She has been teaching at basketry events and guilds across North America since 2000. Annetta has eared several awards, including Best of Nantucket and Viewer's Choice at the 2013 AMB convention and Best of Mold Woven at the 2015 NCBA convention.

In 2015 Annetta started a weekly blog called the Basket Teacher; you can read it at www. prairiewoodbasketry.com Besides baskets and writing about baskets, she loves the people she has met and the places she has visited through basketry.

Annetta was born and raised on the prairies in Alberta, Canada. Today she lives with her husband in the woods in Wisconsin

Weaving is a big part of my life and has been for over30 years. Designing and teaching are two of my favorite things to do. I’ve written over 100 patterns and taught most of them. I have met some life long friends along the way and look forward to weaving and sharing with new friends. When I’m not creating baskets or on the road teaching, I love playing with paper and beads, doodling, and watching my grand children grow.

12

Kathy Tessler

Mary McKinzie

Mary’s love of baskets led to her first weaving class, and she was soon signing up for every class she could find. She has been weaving for over 20 years, and has attended many conventions. Mary is Past-President of Land of Lincoln Basket Weaving Association (LLBWA) in Illinois. She and Jimmie Earl are now retired from their “day jobs” and they are living their dream of spending more time together, weaving and teaching basketry.

Sharon Klusman

Kathy has woven baskets since 1985. She is known for her unique double base/double wall basket construction techniques and her strong, functional basket totes with leather handles. Ash baskets are a special love with many based on a square mold made by her husband. She teaches at conventions and guild gatherings throughout the eastern half of the U.S.

Sharon Klusmann has been weaving, designing and teaching basketry for 30 years. Her website: www.SharonKlusmann.com has seven pages of her original designs. She not only teaches basketry r4om her home studio in Tallmadge, OH but at national conventions and guilds throughout the country. She has had three of her designs featured in Create and Decorate Magazine and is the author of "Business in a Basket" to help others who love basket weaving turn their passion into a successful teaching business.

Jimmy Earl McKinzie

Jimmie Earl’s passion for baskets started over 20 years ago. His first introduction into the art was to “cut and tuck” his wife’s baskets. He has participated in numerous conventions and seminars, learning the use of many diverse media and techniques. Retired from their “day jobs” he and Mary now spend most of their time, designing and weaving new creations. They teach monthly at their studio and provide classes for all experience levels.

I began weaving baskets through my local Community Education classes when my youngest son was a year old. It was a way to get out of the house and be with other women. I loved it from the start! I have been teaching basket classes for 18 years. At this time I have over 90 patterns written and have had works published in two basket magazines. I have won several awards in the exhibit rooms at the AMB Convention and the NCBA Convention. I am happy for the opportunity to teach my love of basketry around the Mid-West and East Coast. Many Girl Scouts have received their weaving merit badges through classes I have taught. I enjoy teaching at the local Art's Council and Council on Aging as well as private groups. I teach basket weaving two days a week out of my home studio. I enjoy selling my baskets at several local stores and from my web site: www.ginasbaskets.com. Trying new mediums and new techniques is something I enjoy: however, twill is my favorite!
