FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT Be alert at all times, praying. (Luke 21:36)

Jesus, help us to be aware of our actions and the people around us. Amen

Dear young people, Christ asks you to be wide awake and alert, to see the things in life that really matter.

A MESSAGE ABOUT CHRISTMAS FROM POPE FRANCIS:

“God never gives someone a gift they are not capable of receiving. If he gives us the gift of Christmas it is because we all have the ability to understand and receive it.”

5.Who was the governor of Syria?

CHECK Luke 2:1-14

THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD (CHRISTMAS) Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and on earth peace among those whom he favours. (Luke 2:14)

Jesus, let us be like the angels and shepherds and spread the good news of your birth. Amen

Add a white candle to the centre of the Advent wreath. Light the Christmas candle when you gather for meals through the Christmas season.

This Christmas may we be consistent in living the Gospel, welcoming Jesus into the centre of our lives.

HOLY FAMILY Then Jesus went down with them

and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. (Luke 2:51)

Jesus, thank you for our family. Help us to honour and respect each other even when we do things that are annoying. Amen

During this week, try hard to listen to, love and respect each person in your family.

It is very important toreaffirmthefamily, which remains the essential cell of society and the Church.

MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD Mary treasured all these words and

pondered them in her heart. (Luke 2:19)

Jesus, bless our mothers who gave us life. Amen

Pray the Hail Mary together.

Like Mary, may we nurture the light born within us at Christmas. May we carry it everywhere in our daily lives.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT Prepare the way of the Lord. (Luke 3:4)

Jesus, may we be like John the Baptist preparing our hearts for Jesus’ return. Amen

As you light the second Advent candle this week consider what changes you can make to bring your family closer to God.

Dear young people, always be missionaries of the Gospel, every day and in every place… Jesus wants to be your friend and spread the joy of this friendship everywhere.

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT John said to them, “Whoever has

two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” (Luke 3:11)

Search the internet to make your own family Advent wreath and light the candles during the evening meal.

The Nativity SceneThe Nativity Scene represents the Christmas story according to the Gospels of Matthew

and Luke. The first nativity scene is said to have been created by St Francis of Assisi in 1223 to try and focus on the reason for Christmas, Christ. It was a living scene with people and animals in the various roles. Over time the people and animals were replaced by statues.

At the beginning of Advent set up an empty crib in a prominent place in the home in anticipation of Christmas and have figures from the nativity scene journey around the house. Move them as they travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, with the wise men reaching the baby Jesus on the feast of the Epiphany.

The Jesse TreeThe Jesse Tree is used to tell the story of Jesus’ ancestry through symbols, starting with creation through to Jesus. The name comes from Jesse who was the father of King David of the Old Testament.

Search online to make your own Jesse Tree ornaments to add to your family Christmas tree during the Advent season.
