Programs and Services:
Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) Our child-friendly site provides free crisis counseling and victim/family advocacy services for child sexual abuse victims and their families as they go through the investigation and prosecution process. The CAC coordinates the investigative process to minimize trauma to the child and to help children and families cope and heal emotionally.
Children Who Witness Violence Program The program helps minimize the effects of exposure to violence on the child, teaching positive coping and safety strategies.
Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Advocates provide information on the dynamics of domestic violence and legal options available to victims. Advocates accompany victims to court, assist with safety planning, and link victims to other helpful community resources. Advocates are available at Toledo Municipal Court, Lucas County Domestic Relations Court, Ottawa County Municipal Court, and Ottawa County Domestic Relations Court.
Batterers Intervention and Prevention Program Program designed to help perpetrators stop violence in intimate partner relationships by challenging their belief systems and holding them accountable for their behavior.
Project Access A partnership between Lucas County Department of Jobs and Family Services and Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center. The Center provides an on-site case manager at Job and Family Services who assists victims of domestic violence by assessing the client’s risk of lethality, working to develop a customized safety plan and providing linkage to other community resources.
Child Abuse Prevention Program A school-based prevention program designed to help preschool and elementary school students recognize dangerous and abusive situations and how to seek help from trusted adults.
Help Me Grow A home-based program designed to prevent child abuse and neglect by coordinating the health and developmental services needed to parents of young children with developmental delays to help their children thrive.
Community & Professional Education Our staff has expertise in a wide range of topics related to family violence and can customize a training for different groups and organizations.

Agency History
Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center was founded in Lucas County in 1974 by a local
pediatrician and a small group of concerned citizens, who saw firsthand the devastating effects
of child abuse. While child protection and law enforcement agencies have a crucial role in
child protection, our founders had the foresight to see the need for additional community
partners. From the compassion, dedication, and vision of this small group of people, an or-
ganization evolved with dedicated professionals who diligently work to break the cycle of fam-
ily violence. With offices in Lucas and Ottawa Counties, Family and Child Abuse Prevention
Center served over 25,000 individuals in 2016.
The mission of Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center is to “intervene and educate to
reduce family violence”. Our services include home-based and school-based child abuse and
teen dating violence prevention programs, a Children’s Advocacy Center, court based advo-
cacy for victims of domestic violence, professional and community awareness trainings, and
facilitation and support of local abuse prevention coalitions.
FCAPC and CAC have a positive track record of participating in cooperative agreements and
community collaborations designed to prevent child abuse and other forms of family violence.
In 1974, FCAPC brought local hospitals together to form a child protection team. The Joint
Hospital Team continues to meet quarterly to provide education on issues related to child
abuse and to collect countywide child abuse statistics from area hospitals.
