Family As God Intended

Part 1: Building The Family

Family Crisis Is A Church Crisis

The church faces a crisis as it struggles to regain the power that was given to us

first in the beginning and later restored to us by the work of the cross, which is

to have dominion.

Dominion is a family concept and not an individual concept.

God did not design us to have dominion alone, but together…husband and

wife, man and woman, in the home and in the church.

Gods Example

God himself does not have dominion alone, but through the unity of his 3

parts, which is why Genesis 1:26, “Let us make man in our image.” Each part

of God has a unique role.

• God the Father or Architect…he designs and commissions…he is the

initiator

• Christ the Son or Forman…he oversees construction and he is the groom

• Holy Spirit or Laborer…he builds and inspects…he is the consummator

God’s Design

• When God chose to reproduce his image in the earth, he made the choice to

divide that image between male and female and create a process by which his

image could only be complete when the two pieces are joined together...we

call it marriage…or other Godly, united activity between man and woman

• According to Genesis 2, during the physical creation of man and woman,

God took woman out of man and then brought her to him and Adam

named her woman recognizing that she came out of him

The Purpose of Our Unity

• In unity, God gave male and female the power to:

• Be fruitful...display proof of Gods image, dominion and authority in the earth

• Multiply...increase Gods image, dominion and authority in the earth

• Replenish...renew the earth with Gods image, dominion and authority or replicate what God had performed in Eden

God was so serious about the ones of man and woman that in the beginning he named them both Adam: Genesis 5:1-2, “This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

God’s Family Structure

1 Corinthians 11:3 “3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is

Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”

• Christ-Husband-Wife

• As husbands when thinking about this structure it is important to note that in relation

to Christ, you are the wife and the same expectations of submission that you have of

your wife, Christ has of you.

Power of The Union

1 Peter 3:7, “7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge,

giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs

together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”

• When we are in unity, we increase the effectiveness of our prayers.

The Favor of The Union

Proverbs 18:22, “22 Whoso finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of

the LORD.”

• When we are in unity we gain favor with the Lord. This is very specific to when we

find the wife that God has purposed for us.

The Authority of The Union

Proverbs 31:23, “23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the

elders of the land.”

• When the husband and wife are in unity and the home is in order, the husband is

granted access to sit in places of authority.

• One of the key requirements of most spiritual offices in the Bible require that the

home is first in order, before tending to the house of God.

Page 10: Family As God Intended: Part 1: Building The Family

Unified to Lead

• 1 Timothy 3:4-5, “4 One that rules well his own house, having his children in

subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own

house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)”

• If you are not first unified at home, you cannot lead in the unity of effort in the church.

Conclusion

We must fight to gain unity and peace in our home if we expect to bring the

power of unity in the church.

The church is I need of sound homes, to build sound communities, that create

sound churches.
