Foot Washing- Humility of Jesus

- John teaches that Jesus took on the nature of a servant…King of Kings and Lord of Lords bowing down and doing a servants task…(foot washing) Additional passage on the humility of Jesus: Philippians 2:5-11 - But that same Lord also cleanses us from sin because of His death on a cross…we have daily cleansing in Christ…the process of sanctification…daily cleansing.- This act is temporary…this is something we will not need in heaven…we will one day be glorified…free from the muck and sin, and burden that sin brings to this life. Foot washing serves as a reminder of the sin that we battle and the humility that we need to confess and walk in the confidence of Christ.

Love FeastMeal - looks common but tonight it is special…we anticipate His glory and being with Him…based upon His never-ending covenant with us.

The Love feast represents the future glorification of all believers in heaven with Jesus. The Bible teaches that we will one day have a great feast with Jesus as the host. All sin, pain and suffering will be gone, and w will be together with Christ forever.

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

We are challenged to:- Look back at what Christ has done- Look forward to what God’s children will have- Look within and see if there is a sin that needs to be addressed

Bread:He gave His body for us …he willingly gave up His rights to His body.- That body had never experienced any sin…he kept it perfectly pure so He could give it up at the right time- Jesus was born to die…without qualification; He gave up his life…

Cup:- Hebrews says that there is no forgiveness of sin w/o the shedding of blood… OT - there was a time of sacrifice…people would bring their best in order to cover their sins…that blood covered our sin…it was symbolically placing all of our sin on that animal…priests would pour out the blood…Here is what is interesting…that blood should have been ours

… Enter Jesus…somebody had to do something about our sin once and for all…imagine sacrificing your child so that somebody else could live. That’s what God did for us.

We tend to get ready for communion by remembering all the bad things we have done…once we have a full dose of guilt then we can take communion…it is meant for us to remember…but we remember what we are no longer…because of His death
