First Governing Board Meeting – Monday, October 7th, 2019 at 7:00PM At this meeting, the Governing Board member will review the Rules of Internal Management, elect a Secretary, and a Treasurer. The dates and times will be decided and made available to all our parents. All our parents are encouraged and invited to attend this meeting, as well as every other meetings. A copy of the Govening Board minutes will be made available on the website once approved by the Governing Board.

We’ve Been Busy!

• Welcome Back Celebration: Friday, September 6th, 2019 The East Hill staff would like to thank the East Hill Home and School for organizing our annual Welcome Back Celebration! The weather was perfect for us to have a fun and exciting time with our new and returning East Hill students and the entire East Hill Family.

• Orientation Evenings !" On Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th the East Hill staff had the pleasure to meet many of our East Hill families. Parents were invited to get a brief introduction from administration and then spent some time with the classroom teacher.

• Picture Day 📸 Thank you to H&S for organizing our school pictures. Parents will receive proofs within the next few weeks and instructions on how to order pictures. There will be a “retake day” for the students who might have been absent or have their eyes closed. We will keep you posted on the date.

Family Monthly Newsletter October 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians, We are pleased to announce that our Governing Board for the 2019-2020 school year was formed at the General Assembly on September 23th , 2019. Our parent members are as follows: Jack Algieri, Joseph Paglia, Anna Tafuto, Marco Alessandrini, Nadia Posterano, Adrienne Taylor, Ivana Iulianella and Melissa Sanzari. The staff members are: Elena Pecora, Rocco Simone, Nadine Rondoll, Catherine Laberge, Leanna Verillo, Idalina Feudale, Laura Teoli and Connie Parry. Our Regional Parent delegate is Joseph Paglia and our alternate is Anna Tafuto. Our Governing Board Chairperson is Jack Algieri. We greatly appreciated their support, passion and contribution in helping East Hill to continue to grow and progress, as well as in representing all the East Hill community! We are looking forward to working together with our partners!

• Jungle Sport !!! This past week, our Active School initiative proved strong, with our gym being completely transformed into a jungle gym! Our students had an absolute blast exploring their coordination skills, all in a safe and secure environment! Pictures will be posted to our social media very soon - stay tuned!

• Lunch Time Activities & After-School Activities 🎉 Lunch time clubs and activities as well as after-school activities will begin during the month of October. Stay tuned for more info and updates!

• Apple Picking 🍎🍏 The East Hill family is so excited to announce that the entire school will be going apple picking on October 17th. All the information has been sent home in a memo. Please return the form as requested so that we can plan accordingly. This will be a memorable day!

🎃 Halloween Festivities in the Works 👻

With the support of Home & School, each classroom will be partaking in a number of fun-filled activities. Since we are an Active School, it is important for you to know that these activities will definitely have an active twist! We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween with our students and dressing up for the festivities and for our Scare Hunger walk. Ø Students may arrive dressed up and remain in costume all day long.

Ø It is imperative that we promote a sense of fun without any element of violence. Ø Props of any kind will not be permitted. Ø Students will not be allowed to wear masks in school nor contact lenses. We suggest that they use

make-up instead. Ø Students MUST wear running shoes since recesses, gym classes and Halloween activities will go on as

usual. For Physical Education classes, students will remain in costume.

• Second Annual Scare Hunger Walk 🍂 Just like last year, on Halloween day, the entire student body will partake in a walk to Scare Hunger, where students will collect the non-perishable food items that neighbors will have set out on their porches that morning. Our own non-perishable food item collection will also begin on October 15th, 2019.

• SPREAD THE WORD - Open House 2019 📲 There will be an Open House for parents and guardians looking to register their children at East Hill for the 2019-2020 school year on Thursday, November 7th. Follow us on Instagram @easthillelementaryofficial and Facebook for more info to come!

Lates and Office Presence: A reminder to all parents that children must be at school for 7:45 AM. Lates can be very disruptive to the daily schedule and affect your child’s learning. Furthermore, it creates additional disruptions for our school secretaries. We also ask that parents refrain from lingering in the office area. There are many confidential documents and information in the office area. In order to protect the privacy of all our families, we ask that you remain in the waiting area outside the office if you have an appointment or you are waiting for your child.

Parent Workshops: This week, letters will be sent out to parents in regard to FREE workshops being offered at East Hill! These workshops will address academic “hot topics”, such as homework strategies, organizational skills and more with the help of Ms. Sharon Klar from Epique INC. We sincerely hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity!

Progress Report: Your child’ s progress report will be distributed on Tuesday, October 15th. In it, you will find information concerning all subjects, as well as feedback on your child’ s learning progress and behaviour. At this point in the school year, the progress report will not offer a detailed evaluation, as its intent is to provide you with an understanding of your child’ s progress after only a few weeks of school. Such a report can help you support your child’ s effort and study habits as we are moving closer to the first report card, which will be released on November 20th.
