Family Newsletter No. 34 ● May 6 – May 10, 2019
This week, the children will learn all about wild animals. Children love learning about new and unusual animals. They will also learn about wild animals from each continent. They will learn about the animal’s habitat, diet and physical
features. Children will also learn why wild animals should not be kept as pets. We will talk about endangered animals and reasons why some animals are labeled as such. This week’s activities will include story
writing, discussions, animal movement and art activities animal math activities just to name a few! By the end of the week, children will be able to tell the difference between a wild and a domestic animal.
Esta semana, los niños aprenderán sobre los animales salvajes. Los niños les encantan aprender acerca de los animales nuevos e inusuales. Ellos aprenderán acerca de los animales salvajes de cada continente. También, ellos aprenderán sobre el hábitat del animal, dieta y características físicas de diferentes animales. Los niños también aprenderán por qué no deben
mantener animales salvajes como mascotas. Hablamos de animales en peligro de extinción y las razones porqué algunos animales están en peligro.
¡Las actividades de esta semana incluyen historia de escritura, discusión, movimiento y canciones, actividades artísticas y ejercicios de matemáticas usando animales,

In our efforts to better communicate with our families, we have recently chosen to use Infinite Campus as our student information system. Infinite Campus is a district-wide student information system designed to manage attendance, grades, schedules, assessments and other information about the students in PUENTE Charter School.
You will have access to the “Campus Portal” which is a confidential and secure website that allows parents/guardians to login and view their child's progress in school. There is also an app available for both iOS and Android devices. The goal of the Campus Portal is to create a better partnership between parents and teachers. The End-of-Year Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Champions of Change” and in keeping with the theme, the children have been busy rehearsing their class song to sing on this day! Mark this date in your calendars.
Each child may invite two (2) parents or two adult guardians and will be seated in between their two adult guests.
Additional guests, including young siblings, and other family members who wish to attend, will be seated in limited available space located in the north section of the Multi-Purpose Room. We recommend that an additional adult attend to supervise any young guests.
Children can come dressed in their “Sunday’s best”, unless they received special instructions from their teachers. Children do not need to wear their uniform on this day
To ensure everyone has a clear view of the stage, please keep in mind that balloons and strollers will not be permitted in the Multi-Purpose Room. Strollers or other items need to be placed on the classroom.
Do not block aisles. Children will be entering and exiting through the aisles, which must remain clear to avoid any confusion. You may photograph your child from your seat or after the ceremony.
It is not permitted to place any camera equipment and/or strollers in the aisles. Please place strollers in the classroom.

¡Nos estamos acercando a los últimos días de escuela! Asegúrese de leer su
boletín semanal para repasar anuncios nuevos del programa.
La Ceremonia de Fin de Año comenzará a las 1:00 p.m. el martes, 11 de junio. Marquen esta fecha en sus calendarios. El tema para este año será “Campeones de Cambio”. ¡Los niños han estado practicando su canción para el fin de año!
A cada niño se le darán dos invitaciones y se sentarán entre dos adultos.
A los demás invitados, incluyendo hermanitos, se sentarán en lugares limitados en el ala norte del salón de multi-usos. Recomendamos que un adulto los supervise.
Los niños pueden venir vestidos para la ocasión. Al menos que hayan recibido instrucciones distintas de los maestros. No necesitan venir con uniforme.
Para asegurarnos que todos puedan ver el evento, no se permitirá traer globos ni cochecitos de bebés. Tendrán que guardar los artículos o carriolas en el salón de clase.

Help your child learn to read! The most commonly used words in English follow few spelling or pronunciation rules and cause children great difficulty when they are beginning to read. If you help your child master these words and know them "by sight”, then s/he will be able to focus on the more important content words. Reading will be more interesting and more enjoyable as a result! Please help your child practice his/her sight word list on a daily basis. It will make a dramatic difference as s/he begins to read.

Do You Know How Mother’s Day Began?
In the United States, the establishment of Mother’s Day was due largely to the love of one daughter, Anna Jarvis. When Anna’s mother died on May 5, 1905, Anna was determined to honor her. She organized a eulogy in West Virginia to be given in her mother’s memory. Their minister honored the late Mrs. Jarvis as well as all mothers with a special Mother’s Day service. Soon after, the governor of West Virginia proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day, and a year later it was recognized in every state. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother’s Day as a national holiday in the United States. En los Estados Unidos, el establecimiento del día de las madres empezó en gran parte por al amor de una hija, Ana Jarvis. Cuando la madre de Anna se murió el 5 de mayo de 1905, Ana quiso honrarla.
