The Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center will launch a “new wave” of 9h technology this week which will help provide critical information when calls are made from cellphones and landlines.

SMART9U.com will allow users to create a profile with information that will be passed on to an operator when a call is made to 911.

“With Smart9H, anytime you make an emergency call from a phone registered with your Safety Profile, the 9-1-1 system recognizes your phone number and automatically displays your profile on the screen of the call taker who receives your call,” the company said.

Detailed information can be provided such as family members, photos, medical notes, pets, car make and model, and emergency contacts.

Hamilton County already uses Smart911 technology, Hamilton County Communications Director Andrew Knapp said.

The launch will take place on Thursday morning with representatives of the city, police and fire chiefs, as well as the Plush family present.

Kyle Plush died April 10 when he became trapped under the rear seat of his Honda Odyssey and asphyxiated in the back of his van. His body was found hours later, despite his efforts to reach 9H, in the parking lot of Seven Hills School.

A ceiling collapse in East Price Hill’s HO-year-old public library has closed the historic branch temporarily-

Library staff on July 3 found part of the ceiling on the floor of the library at 3215 Warsaw Ave., said Chris Rice, spokesman for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County.

No one was injured because the collapse happened when the library was closed.

The cause of the collapse, the extent of the damage, how much it will cost and how long repairs will take weren’t known.

In the meantime, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission has offered the library use of the Price Hill Recreation Center 500 feet away. Limited

services such as pickup for materials put on hold for members and the summer meal program will be at the recreation center, 959 Hawthorne Avenue in East Price Hill.

The summer tutor program will be moved to the Covedale branch.

Books can still be dropped off through a return slot at the Price Hill location or any other branch.

The Price Hill branch is the fifth oldest library building still in use in the system.

A grant from steel magnate Andrew Carnegie paid for the construction in 1909. The Cincinnati public library leaders had put the East Price Hill branch on a priority list for upgrades since it’s not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rice said. Hamilton County voters in May approved doubling the property tax to pay for maintenance and upkeep to the libraries.
