Fandom Forward Project GoalsAuden Granger
● Improve connections from source material to social change movements and needs to incorporate the empathy that makes stories a valuable tool for social change
○ Form new campaigns that better suit the source materials instead of merely adapting the motivations to fit already existing HPA campaigns without actually doing any different actions at all
○ Look beyond specific plot devices and connect to broader meanings, themes, and focuses of the work as a whole
● Emphasize the importance of critical analysis of potentially problematic elements of media and the value of active viewership and participation
○ Focus on representation in media, societal implications of a work, and other real world perspective elements of media
● Create something active, rather than simply reflective○ Provide currics with more variety, like videos, physical activities, games, at-home
projects○ Make discussion deliberate, guided, and final, rather than introductory and broad
● Fulfill actual needs while still providing volunteer opportunities that are still enjoyable and garner enthusiasm from participants
○ Find the balance between creating projects that are fun to do and projects that are actually practical in the amount of help that they bring about
● Use media as more than just an inspiration to participate in another non-media based project
○ Shift focus from fundraising for other organizations that act on an issue to actually participating in campaigns that directly address those issues
● Be a resource and a guide to Chapters and others who hope to execute the curriculums/activities in the documents
○ Allow for feedback from people who hope to complete/have completed an activity/curriculum
○ Answer questions, provide information, and help individual Chapters or groups as they work through the practicalities of a Fandom Forward project
● Source information in currics
● Ensure awareness and understanding of topic by facilitator and participants before discussions/campaigns to avoid inaccuracies of information or stagnant discussions
○ Create resources/provide training for facilitators and moderators■ Provide facilitator notes, expected times, required materials, and other
notes for presenters in curriculums■ Discuss how to moderate discussions, how to prompt more conversation,
asking follow-up questions, bringing paper resources and handouts, slide-shows, videos to open discussion, other ways to make it more engaging and boost enthusiasm and participation
■ Discuss how to run a fundraiser event○ Training workshops
● Eliminate vagueness in documents○ provide specific activities, discussion questions, and examples
● Increase involvement in community outside of chapters ○ more campaign ideas that push the story focus out into the rest of the community
instead of having it just be a motivation for chapter members● Coordinate with Imagine Better to promote collaborations between chapters and other
fandom groups, activists, and organizations
