FAO’s framework for assessing land degradation, developed in close collaboration with the World Overview of Conservations Approaches and Technologies “WOCAT” and originally initiated at the request and in support of the UNCCD, that can assist in targeting investment and planning interventions for efficient, equitable and sustainable agricultural development.

Regional Priorities for Central Asia in 2012-2013

Support to countries in the promotion and development of sustainable land management and planning • Strengthening institutional capacity in Central Asia on land

use mapping and land degradation assessment tools• Multi-country proposal aiming to scale up SLM in Central

Asia (including national land use system map produced with the lead institution in each country)

• Technical Assistance provided (upon requests from Member Countries)

Sub-regional forest land restoration priorities for 2012-2013

• Continuation of support to strengthening the policy, legal and institutional framework for implementation of sustainable management of forest and tree resources

• Strengthening environmental roles and contributions of forests and trees to:

combat desertification restore and sustainably manage watersheds resources conserve riparian (tugai) forests Climate change adaptation and mitigation
