General Conference Pick! Because the November Liahona and Ensign contain a report of the October general conference, there is not a specifically designated First Presidency Message or Visiting Teaching
Message for November. Home and visiting teachers are encouraged to prayerfully select their
message from the addresses given during general conference.
During the Millennium, mortals will still live on earth, and they will continue to have children as we do now (see D&C 45:58). Joseph Smith said that immortal beings will frequently visit the earth. These resurrected beings will help with the government and other work.
People will still have their agency, and for a time many will be free to continue with their religions and ideas. Eventually everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is the Savior.
During the Millennium, Jesus will “reign personally upon the earth” (Articles of Faith 1:10). Joseph Smith
explained that Jesus will “reign over the Saints and come down and instruct” .

This plan should be enough to
sustain two people for one year.
For every two people in your
family add $5.00 more and

If you can not afford more than
the $5.00 a week for the whole
family at least do the $5.00,
it's a start.
Remember to mark the date on
each item when you buy them
and use the oldest first.

Latter-day Saint Charities (Humanitarian Services)
Church humanitarian work primarily helps those in need who are not members of the
Church. There are many people in virtually any community in the world who struggle to meet
their basic needs. The Church seeks to help as many as possible.
Chilean youth prepare relief kits for earthquake victims.
For many years, The Church has been actively involved in humanitarian relief and
development activities throughout the world. These include emergency relief
assistance in times of disaster and humanitarian programs that strengthen the
self-reliance of individuals, families, and communities.
Humanitarian projects are funded by donations from Church members and others.
One hundred percent of these donations go directly to help the poor and needy.
In-kind material assistance is provided through items donated by Church members
and others. Donations can be made in fast offerings slips.
Church humanitarian efforts relieve suffering for families of all nationalities and
religions and offer hope with the potential for a better life for millions of people
around the world.
Some of the projects that the LDS Services have participated in:
Emergency response in times of disaster (In 2010 the Church provided relief to
people affected by 119 disasters in 58 countries.)
Neonatal Resuscitation Training (One million babies die yearly in some of the
poorer nations due to lack of medical help.)
Vision Care Training (Improving quality of treatment for those with poor or no
vision.)
Clean Water (About 884 million people do not have clean water.)
Immunizations (92% reduction in measles deaths)

“...Communication with our Father in Heaven—including our
prayers to Him and His inspiration to us—is necessary in order
for us to weather the storms and trials of life. The Lord
invites us, „Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you;
seek me diligently and ye shall find me.‟ As we do so, we will
feel His Spirit in our lives, providing us the desire and the
courage to stand strong and firm in righteousness—to „stand …
in holy places, and be not moved.”

Somewhere, well into the month of December, it happens: you realize that there's a lot left to do (and buy),
and not a lot of time or money left to work with. But you can still cover all the bases without breaking the
bank or losing your mind. Try a couple of these suggestions to get it done quickly for less!
1. Go for the E-Card.
In the age of digital photography, it's easier than ever to whip out a wonderful Christmas
card on the computer and send it via email or Facebook to friends far and wide. This elimi-
nates all of the cost for photo processing, envelopes, postage and the time needed to assem-
ble and address the paper cards. What's more, today's e-cards give you the option to include
several family photos in slide-show format along with music and animations—the possibilities
are endless! Take a look at www.smilebox.com for ideas.
2. Buy small.
When buying gifts for out-of-town friends and family, pay attention to the physical size of
the item you choose. If you keep it small, you can take advantage of the U.S. Postal Service's
flat rate shipping boxes, saving big bucks on postage! Visit www.usps.com to find out how to
get boxes, pay for and print postage from home, and schedule a free pick-up for your packag-
es.
3. Rustic wrapping.
We tend to spend a bundle on beautiful wrapping paper and ribbons that are destroyed in mere seconds. You
can have lovely gifts under the tree for less if you go for the rustic look of plain brown butcher paper, tied up
with simple raffia or other inexpensive cording. Is all brown too plain for you? Enlist the little ones to help
decorate the paper with stamps or tempera paints for a dash of color.
4. Let Mother Nature decorate.
Before you spend a lot on decorations, take a look around the yard (and even the roadside) for natural holly,
berries and other holiday flora. A few stems snipped off a shrub and arranged in a vase or in the center of
your dining room table can make the atmosphere festive for free! If you have small children, ensure that none
of your natural décor is poisonous.
5. Take advantage of price comparison websites.
If you're in the hunt for a particular item, check out one of the price comparison sites to find the retailer
with the best price. Not only are you confident that you're getting the best deal when you make the pur-
chase, you've saved countless hours in traffic and fighting the mall crowds to visit major retailers in person.
These sites are especially helpful with electronics purchases. Try www.nextag.com or www.pricegrabber.com
to get started.

Stake Provident Living Message
Holiday Finances
Who wants to avoid holiday stress? Who wants to keep a loving and cheerful holiday spirit? Everyone does. One good way to make the holidays the peaceful time they should be is to make an early effort to plan
your finances for that time of year, including Thanksgiving. "...If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." Here are some brief tips that might just keep the holidays merry, or make them merrier.
Gratitude. Let the spirit of gratitude pervade all that you do. Consider the atonement and eternal life, the greatest gift of all. Put money away early. Starting in January, put money away monthly in a high-yield savings or money market account. Know what you have. If you can only spare $X, it’s better to know that before you start shopping, instead of shopping blindly per person, then attempting damage control afterward. Stick with your commitment to a given amount. If you don't think you can afford anything, keep reading.
Shorten your Purchase List. You can also reduce expenses by sending well-prepared cards, letters or poems, if you want to share your appreciation.
Best Option: Use Cash. It’s harder to let go of money when it’s real cash. Also, it's quicker and easier to get your money back if the gift needs to be returned.
Hold Off on the Plastic. Friends and family don’t expect you to sacrifice your credit for their happiness.
Remember non-gift expenses. Holidays expenses don’t stop at gifts. They include travel expenses, gift-wrap, tape, food, household decorations, etc. Account for these things in your budget so there are no surprises.
Think outside the (gift wrapped) box. Make something; sing a song, bake cookies, make arts and crafts, spend time, or make a coupon book for free chores. This could also mean avoiding wrapping paper completely (a man's idea). How much money goes into wrapping paper?
Shop online. Malls are designed to get you to spend more money than you’d planned. With online shopping, you can make more objective, smarter purchasing decisions. You can save fuel and time, and sometimes the shipping will be free. Keep detailed records. Know what you have purchased, for whom, and for how much. Let Someone Know. Maybe this section should have been listed first. So... it's been a tough year... or it's been a tough several years and you almost wish you could skip the holiday season all together because of the increased focus it seems to put on your financial hardships. Know that there are people in your ward--your friends--that want to help. Every year there are people who want to help--you have no idea how many people would like to help you, and they can help you, but it's harder for them to help if you don't let someone know. This can be difficult to do, and there is a temptation to wait until the last minute because you're hoping that things will improve and you'll end up with some funds. Someday the financial situations may be reversed, and you would truly want to help the family that lives on the corner if they lacked resources for the holidays. You'll wish that you'd known about their need in time to help. Maybe these thoughts can help you to share your situation, to let your bishop know, your home teacher, your visiting teacher, or a friend. Remember, the Lord wants to help you, and he'll be doing it through others. And in this way you'll be allowing the Lord to bless them as they give and serve.
