Fascination: Paper Form

Fascination:

What is a fascination? For me understanding the fundamentals, dare I say the principles, in which a critical view on design requires. What is it that I appreciate in the natural and composed environments that surround me? What catches my eye at first sensational glance and what keeps me in-terested with sustained story behind it. These elements make up my so called appropriated identity, not of my own creation but of an organized curation. The purely sublime manifestation of witty invention mixed with the cleverly altered classics. At first I am only drawn by the substanti-ated and intellectualized but the emotional and romantic come through in moments of self professed weakness. Its a melange but continuity exists with consideration for aesthetics, formal integrity, proportion, material, context, and message.

Paper form:

What is the form of the book book, how can paper change dimension? The closest material to a writer, thinker, and designer is paper. Sketching ideas or equally painting pictures through words on a page is the first step to creation. The tactility, weight, sound of pencils, markers, pens, and printed ink against surface is the confirmation of process, satisfac-tion is process. Once paper has been baptized, dare i say it, de-flowered, it can then be curated into an assemblage, a pamphlet, magazine, book, or volume. But wait, how does the form of a book express its content, must we allow the images a the words to tell their story on their own? Can bound pages take shape as well? It can fold, pop out, loop, bend, and combine together. Come on cut into it and see how the layers of the house can come through the sequence of pages hidden behind the cover. Paper is material best used in multiplicity.
