In the past people used to wear their traditional clothes depending on their culture. Nowadays the trend is changing and people wear different clothes. Is it a positive or negative development? How does it affect certain societies and people’s behavior?

In the 21th society, there are many significant innovations in every aspect of life such as technology, transportation, culture and ect. Fashion is not an exception. These days, people tend to change their habits to adapt well with a modern life by wearing fashion designs instead of traditional ones. This social phenomenon on the one hand has some drawbacks but on the other hand gets some positive points to discuss.

Obviously, folk costumes express identifies through clothes which is associated with a geographical area or a period time of history. By wearing them, people can show the patriotism and take a great deal of pride in their motherland. Besides, traditional clothes are objects for children to be taught as a symbol of culture. For example, “ao dai” in Vietnam is a national costume which demonstrates strong symbolic nationalistic beauty of Vietnamese women and is usually worn in every holiday and festival, especially in Tet holiday. Another instance is India. Sari is regarded as a symbol of freedom when India took their independence from England after the World War II. Hence, in the wedding ceremony brides all look charming and elegant in that costume and since 1988 government has forced student to wear Sari at school.

However, it is often said that "Change Is the Spice of Life". It means that the way of dressing should change to keep life more interesting because people at the present are opener than the elders and they want to express their appreciation for whatever looks good on them whether it relates to their culture or not. For instance jeans are extremely universally popular clothes around the world. Although they first originated in western countries, people in every country wear them because they are comfortable and make the wearer look good and sexier. Furthermore, another advantage of present day outfits is that they are inexpensive and faster to put on than traditional clothes as this aspect is extremely important and vital to keep up with the fast pace of life where time is precious. The cheapest price of a custom-made full hanbok set – a Korean national costume (included top, bottom, underskirt, matching shoes) would be about USD 200 while a usual fashion dress could cost 10 times cheaper than it.

In conclusion, conventional outfits are absolutely priceless and wearing them is a way of saving the culture. Otherwise, at the moment, people often choose fashion clothes to wear to meet the job and personal requirements. To my point of view, it all depends on how people use them to pave the way of success in a modern society.
