inDustryprofessionalsIn a dicult macroeconomic climate that makes the uture o
the manuacturing sector increasingly uncertain, now more
than ever, ashion companies need to combine feibility
and responsiveness when nalizing their collections.
In the ready-to-wear sector, companies are nding new ways
to cope with the growing pressure to reduce costs; they are
being orced to manage their development cycles and their
stocks strictly and careully. The speed o collection renewal
imposed by the ast ashion business model has also prompted
certain brands to adopt a more balanced sourcing strategy by
returning to suppliers closer to home. The need or creativity
is elt more keenly than ever beore: companies are required
to bring to market products that blend originality, comort
and practicality, all at the right price. Products that ulll allthe requirements o t, comort and style have most chance
o succeeding with the target consumer, especially when they
have the added advantage o a recognized brand name.
In the luury sector, where a slowdown in growth was greatly
eared, the situation is more encouragingconsumers
attracted by these brands images have buoyed the market.
However, caution is advised: as a result o this success,
big names in the sector will be encouraged to etend their
product ranges in line with their original business activity in
order to capitalize on their power to raise aspirations.
Powerul, collaborative, business-oriented technology is

In order to provide the b est oer possible to overcome
the particular constraints o these industries, Lectra
has developed three specially adapted models.
The VectorDenimMX ensures exceptional producti-
vity or jeans manuacturers working with even the
thickest materials. It guarantees the high levels o
quality expected by denim brands or products that
are increasingly innovative and sophisticated.
Ideal or cutting the small pieces required or
lingerie, the VectorLingerieMX is equipped with
pilot sotware that adapts the machines behavior to
the deliacte and stretchable materials used in this
market. For maunacturers o knitted garments,
the VectorFashionMX9 is the most productive
model on the market, combining impressive cutting
speed, the capacity to cut thicker than normal spreads,
and exceptional quality.
Through a maintenance plan integrated into the Vector
ranges pilot sotware, Lectras solutions work in a
proactive mode. A system o alerts allows companies to
take action even beore malunction occurs; this limits
the need or intervention by Lectras technicians and
keeps machine down time to a minimum. To ensure
that the tools integration into the production site is
both ecient and reliable, the pilot sotware genera-
tes activity and productivity reports. This intelligent
system makes real improvements in a context where
the slightest delay can have serious consequences.
Our biggest challenge is to ensure the
highest possible cutting quality or all
the pieces used to make our products. Lingerie items contain several
components, which are oten small and intricately shaped. I those
components are not cut well, we need to ask our stitchers to make
corrections during the sewing process, which opens up the possibility
o lapses in quality. Lectra provided the best oer in terms o quality, eiciency and productivity. We installed the VectorLingerieMX in
our cutting room and perormed several cutting tests. We provided
eedback and worked together with Lectras R&D department to optimize
the cutters perormance. Our objective with this new Lectra cutter
was to cut 60 layers with buer zones o three millimeters. With the
VectorLingerieMX, we quickly reached our target. Cutting is 30% aster,
and reducing buer zones rom ive to three millimeters allowed us
to reduce abric consumption by 4%, which translates into an annual
saving o 500,000.

MODARIS:THE WORLDWIDE STANDARDFOR PATTERN-MAKINGDesigned to meet the needs o ashion companies
around the world in terms o lead times, quality, and
garment t, or more than 10 years, Modaris has been
the industry standard or the biggest names in ashion.
It is the most popular sotware among pattern makers,
with more than 22,000 licenses worldwide. At the crossroads between design and production,
Modaris enables users to create patterns or all types
o garmentmens wear, womens wear, childrens
wear, lingerie, corsetry, and even work clothes.
Totally job- and process-oriented, Modaris covers a
comprehensive range o unctions, including on-screen
management o models, digitization, pattern verication,
grading, size management, and pre-production.
Impressive capacities or data exchange with other CAD
systems on the market make Modaris an indispensable
application or networked companies (with multiple sites,
partners, and sub-contractors in several countries, etc.).
Modaris is suitable or all user proles and product
types.
MODARIS ExPERTPRO:A PRODUCTIVITY BOOST FOR THEPATTERN DEVELOPMENT OFFICEModaris ExpertPro is a unique sotware solution on
the market and is able to improve productivity by up
to 50%. It was developed at the end o the 1990s in
collaboration with the biggest names in ashion and
luxury goods to assist in the development o the most
complex, highest-quality collections.
Modaris ExpertPro allows users to create powerul
and intelligent associations between pattern elements
through two original concepts that together orm
Lectras unique approach to model creation. Modaris
ExpertPros all-size pattern-making system enables
companies to develop a model in all sizes in a single
step without having to go through the grading process
separately. The sotwares dynamic dependencies
concept gives users the ability to create links between
pattern elements so that any modications made to
one piece o a pattern are automatically transer red to all
dependent pieces. In this way, Modaris ExpertPro allows
pattern makers to organize the pattern development
process and keep a record o the way in which patterns
are constructed. Pattern designers can thus reuse 80
to 90% o the elements created or one collection as
the basis or a new one.
From the creation o the very irst collection using
this sotware, development times are reduced by 20
to 30% and go on decreasing, year ater year, as the
company builds its know-how, regardless o the team
in charge o development. Modaris ExpertPro has
established itsel as the best way to optimize deve-
lop-ment costs by making the best use o teams o
experienced pattern makers, who are now able to
cope with two to ive times more models than with
traditional pattern-making sotware.
Pushing back the boundaries o pattern-making
and providing ashion proessionals with the means
to increase productivity in pattern development and
create more models, Modaris ExpertPro is now
the pattern-making solution used by 80% o luxury
ready-to-wear brands in Europe.
In a context o increasingly requent collection
renewal, apparel sector proessionals seek to
optimize their product development processes, in
terms o both time and costs, particularly by making
grading easier and aster. Lectras oer thereoreproposes multiple grading techniques (manual,
automatic, expert) to suit the dierent characteristics
o pieces developed and industrialized products.

solutionthe most powerul on the marketboth
reduces the number o physical prototypes necessaryand acilitates communication within the company
(between pattern makers, designers, product
developers, sales and marketing teams, etc.) and
between principals and sub-contractors, irrespective
o their numbers and location.
Lectras innovation, the result o eight years o researchand development, allows simulation and realistic
visualization o garment models in three dimensions.
This is achieved through a combination o material
inormation (based on a library o 120 dierent abrics
and their physical characteristics), 2D patterns, and
virtual 3D mannequins (standard and congurable).
With its powerul abric visualization tools and realistic
graphics, Modaris 3D Fit ensures complete control o
the t o models (ease, balance, proportions, etc.) in all
sizes, a huge leap orward in CAD technology.
Taking into consideration the creative constraints
o designers as well as those related to the
development o pattern-making speciications,
Modaris 3D Fit enables an evaluation o virtual
prototypes, on site or remotely, between principals
and sub-contractors. It thus enables the dierent
contibutors to the process to validate the style o
garments and collections, even beore the productiono the rst physical prototype.
For Princesse tam.tam, Modaris ExpertPros dependencies concept has made a real dierence.
We no longer need to modiy pieces one by one, and then extract them, with the risk each time o
orgetting certain pieces or o making a mistake. Now, when we modiy a pattern, the same modication
is made automatically in all the pieces linked to the pattern. Its a guarantee that our modications
are carried out with precision. Working with dependencies has reduced the time we spend nalizing a
product by at least 30 %. Modaris has really revolutionized our way o working and Modaris ExpertPro
has added a whole new dimension to our eciency and our productivity."
