TUTORSHIP

PROGRAM OVERVIEWThe residence is based on labs. Labs are places for research, designed to give students working knowledge of the selected subject. The research process starts with the proposal of a brief, which outlines the subject, scope, and purpose of the activity.

The research is in collaboration with internal faculty, visiting professors and industrial partners, paying attention to fulfill both educational and professional goals. Each lab culminates in a final event, an open presentation to the public of the work done. In the development of the research, students will be supported by lectures aimed at broadening their knowledge on the specific investigation theme, inviting designers, researchers, stakeholders and representatives of companies to present their work and ideas as a link between the specific disciplinary perspective and the broader cultural/economic context.

Periodic feedbacks to students are also part of the assessment. Students work in multi-cultural and international teams to enhance their capacity for teamwork as well as to expose them to a comparison with different backgrounds and cultures.

Students work individually or in mixed groups to support the building of a common mindset and to share previous experiences. Students are exposed to different points of view in the contemporary fashion field, working with designers and companies.

One of the purposes of this exposure is to give students the broadest possible view of the design field in order to support them in the selection of the area in which to concentrate their future careers.

Lessons in the lab will constitute the core of the didactical experience and will be held by the Project Leaders of the three study paths and the tutor.

The Project Leaders will be present once a week and will carry out teaching and project revision activity.

Students will be able to use the lab also after class time, in order to complete their projects.

TRAINING PATHSA-GENDER FASHION TEXTILE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Cultural changes related to gender issues are generating a different approach in definingfashion categories. The traditional collection men/women is becoming less significant, while at the opposite we can see men and women in the same collection or entire collections that are designed for both genders. The historical competencies rooted in Biella area offer the opportunity to apply traditional technologies related to the a-gender production. Students will then research and design a capsule collection that combines the two different genres.

In the textile area the demand for professionals who introduce both technological innovation of new aesthetics derived from traditional processes is constantly increasing. Embroidery, printing, texture, finishings, materials and colors can offer an endless array of possibilities that respond to market demand. Within the residence, with the weekly meeting with the visiting professor, students will conduct their experimentation in this field and, at the end, they will be able to propose their own textile collection.

Page 9: Fashion in Residence - NABA · Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Lecture + review by a Visiting Professor selected by NABA Lecture + review ... Students work individually or in mixed

This specialization is a novelty among the educational offerings in the fashion industry. The increasing diffusion of museums dedicated to fashion requires a brand new skilled staff, who can set new ways of telling and representing fashion, encompassing the old museum systems. The same need for a new story of fashion is leading to design completely new display. Within the residence, with the weekly meeting with the visiting professor, students will conduct their experimentation in this field and, at the end, they will be able to propose their own proposal of curatorship / exhibition.
