– I’m interested in environmental problems and computer science. Those
interests were made me to decide my major. As your guess, my major
is environmental engineering, and I was received a bachelor’s degree in
my major. In order to introduce my personality, first of all, I’m not an
outgoing person, but I really enjoy to make new friends the reason for
having new experiences. Please, come to me and be my friend and let
me know if you have any question about me. At last, I’m going to cover
GMOs part of our presentation and conclusion too. Thank you for your
attention.

Extra nutrition by eating fast food
When the body satisfy with all nutrition content , the extra nutrition will be
saved in the muscle and liver. Also, it will go through vessels to the heart .
What will happen then?
Diseases !
Such as:
obesity
heart disease
stroke
many different diseases.

Obesity
Obesity is an excess proportion of total body fat.
A person is considered obese when his or her weight is 20% or more
above normal weight.
The most common measure of obesity is the body mass index or BMI.
a person is considered obese if his or her BMI is over 30.

What Causes Obesity?
Many major factors that lead to obesity such as:
Psychological factors.
Environmental factors.
Genetics.
Illness.

The Health Effects of Overweight and Obesity
Coronary heart disease
Type 2 diabetes
Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
Stroke
Liver and Gallbladder disease
Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)
*Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher; obesity is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher.

Genetically Modified Organisms
What are GMOs?
– Genetically modified organisms
– Plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology
– Called as Frankenfood
Why are GMOs used in Fast food, and What is problem?
– For example, GMO sweet corn is genetically engineered to be herbicide
resistant and to produce its own insecticide
– As a result, don’t need to spend money for using herbicide or pesticide
– However, GMOs haven’t been demonstrated safety yet
Cheap and effective, but can’t trust for our health
![Page 19: Fast food and its effect on society](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022020302/58a949721a28ab991c8b657f/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Page 19
The usage of GMOs in fast food
– Corn (approx. 88% of U.S. crop in 2011)
– Soy (approx. 94% of U.S. crop in 2011)
– Animal products (milk, meat, eggs, honey, etc.)
because of contamination in feed
The yield of GMOs in the world
– In 2003, countries that grew 99% of
the global transgenic crops were:
The United States (64%)
Argentina (21%)
Canada (6%)
Brazil (4%)
China (4%)
South Africa (1%);
see the graph below, listing the acreage in millions for the countries indicated.
The yield of GMOs in the world and USA

Page 20
How are the potential risks to human health determined by using GMOs?
The potential risks to human
– Direct health effects (toxicity)
– Tendencies to provoke allergic reaction
(allergenicity)
– Nutritional effects associated with
genetic modification
– Any unintended effects which could
result from the gene insertion.
![Page 21: Fast food and its effect on society](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022020302/58a949721a28ab991c8b657f/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)

Conclusion
Using fast food may cause Health problem
– The most serious problem is an Obesity
• An excess proportion of total body fat
• Also, obesity causes chronic diseases
– Coronary heart disease
– Type 2 diabetes
– Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
– Hypertension (high blood pressure)
These problems can lead to rise the charge
of government’s health insurance
![Page 22: Fast food and its effect on society](https://reader030.vdocument.in/reader030/viewer/2022020302/58a949721a28ab991c8b657f/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Page 22
Conclusion
The safety of GMOs, which are included in fast food,
hasn’t been proved yet
– USA is the largest country making GMOs in the world
– Moreover, the corn and soy, which we are eating as fast food,
are GMOs
– The potential risks by using GMOs are unforeseeable and critical
No cheap products without reason
