Fast Food Outlets Defined

A fast-food outlet is a quick service restaurant: • Pay at the counter

– Offers food that is ready to eat quickly after ordering

– Minimal service

– Requires that customer pays for food prior to its consumption

• Main items include entrees such as sandwiches– Do not include donut, snack, coffee or other specialty

restaurants unless they serve entrees on their menu

Page 7: Fast Food Outlets Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Prevention (CX 3 ) CX 3 CX 3 Tier 2 Training FFY 2013

• Do not survey bakeries or cafés unless they serve a full menu of food (such as sandwiches, salads, soups, etc.) on a menu board or paper menu

• Does it have a “fast food feel”?

• Is food served wrapped in paper, in a disposable box, on a tray with a paper liner, with ketchup/mayo packets? Drive thru?

• If any doubt, go ahead and survey– Can make final decision at state office
