LIVE THE LITURGY
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
"Let us love not in word or speech but in deed and
truth." Real love, especially unconditional love, cannot
exist apart from action. We are called to bear much
fruit and become Jesus' disciples. We live in a world
that is suffering so badly. By our actions and the way
we organize our lives, we can model the Gospel values
that many no longer see as important. We can be heal-
ers who put mercy into action. We can choose to un-
conditionally respect human life and challenge those
who do not. We can live nonviolent lives, resist the
lust for power, and avoid greed in all its forms. It is
difficult to live the Gospel message of love. We will
often be met with rejection. We need to allow God to
prune away everything that makes it difficult to love.
Then we have to take the risk and call others to a high-
er standard, no matter the price.
Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today!
Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United
States are considered home mission territory because
they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work
needed in their communities. Your support funds
programs, such as religious education, seminary
formation, and lay ministry training, to build vibrant
faith communities right here in the United States.
Please be generous. More information can be found at
www.usccb.org/home-missions.

First Reading: Acts 9:26-31
Earlier in the book of Acts we hear of Saul (later known as Paul) persecuting Christians in Jerusalem. When he went to Damascus to do more of the same, he experienced a dramatic conversion. It was several years before he returned to Jerusalem, the site of his earlier persecutions. His first visit to Jerusalem as a Christian is described in today’s reading.
Second Reading: 1 John 3:18-24
During this Easter Season, our second Scripture reading is from the first letter of John. In today’s passage, the author is dealing with some members of the community who have defected. They seem to have believed that, as long as you have faith in Jesus, it doesn’t matter what you do in daily life. The author directly refutes that position. `

Dear Parishioners,
Last Saturday I celebrated the funeral Mass for Marie
Sidor who was married to her husband John for 71 years. The
two of them lived at Mount Alverna in rooms that were side
by side. I first met Marie & John 2 years ago and have since
anointed Marie a couple of times, as did Fr. Vesely just a few
days before she died. She and John had two sons, Jack & Dr.
Tim Sidor who were raised in our parish and we extend our
sympathy to them and to the grandchildren. Pray not only for
Marie but for her husband John as well.
Last Monday we celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial
for Pal Kis whom I anointed the previous week. I also prayed
the last rites for him with two of his daughters. He was with
those who loved him when he passed away at the age of 87.
Pal had many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and even 5 great-great grandchildren. We ask the Risen Lord
to welcome him and all those who have died into his prom-
ised kingdom.
We also prayed for Rickey Aldridge on that same Mon-
day as we entrusted him to God during his funeral Mass. His
brother-in-law Deacon Gerry Scopilliti preached at the Mass
and offered prayers at the wake and cemetery. We extend our
sympathy to Rickey’s wife Tina and to their children, Rickey
and Monica. May he live forever with the Lord.
I’m sure you’ve noticed the numerous holes we have to
maneuver around in the parking lot. It seems that this past
winter really did a job on it. I have already met with
Advanced Paving and contracted for them to repair both
parking lots and patch some of the smaller holes but the work
cannot be done until the beginning of summer so please drive
slowly and carefully and thank you again for your contribu-
tions to the Capital Improvements envelope which helps us to
pay for these expensive annual repairs.
I also want to thank those who take advantage of their
employer’s matching contribution program. It doubles what
they are able to contribute and is a big help to us. Does your
employer offer something like this? Why not inquire & see if
you can take advantage of this if offered at your place of em-
ployment?
Next Saturday, May 5th, the second grade students of our
parish will be receiving their First Holy Communion at the
4pm Mass. This will be the third sacrament they will have
received and we are so happy to celebrate this special
occasion with them. It means that they can now join us at the
Table of the Lord. Pray that they may receive this great gift
weekly, following the example of their parents.
IT’S BACK! - DONUT SUNDAY
Please join us AFTER MASS in the
main church vestibule after the 8:00
and 11:00 Masses for donuts and
coffee.
Twenty-four boys and girls from our parish will be
celebrating their First Holy Communion on Saturday,
May 5th at the 4:00 p.m. Mass. Please keep these
boys and girls in your prayers as they welcome Jesus
into their hearts.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Friday, May 4th
Eucharistic Adoration begins after the 8:30
am Mass and ends at 5:00 p.m. You are
invited to spend some time with the Lord in a
quiet and prayerful atmosphere.

BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES
We are proud to introduce ourselves as the “Bethlehem Christian Families”, from the
Holy Land We have come to the United States representing the Christian wood carvers
