INTRODUCTIONSantarém is a rich area in natural habitats. The River and the Wetlands on it’s margins, the Cork and other kinds of Mediterranean forests incorporate a varied Flora and Fauna that we will find out in a morning or in an afternoon.

Among the species that we will observe or photograph are:

• Orchids: Man Orchid, Italian Orchid, Woodcock Orchid, Yellow Ophrys, Bee Orchid, Piramidal Orchid, etc.

• Diurnal Butterflies: Swallow-tail, Scarce Swallow-tail, Cleopatra, Green Hairstreak, Small Copper, Painted Lady, Spanish Marble White, etc.

• Birds: Colorful and showy species like The Birds of Prey Booted Eagle, Black Kite, Hoopoe, Bee-eater, Cirl Bunting etc.

PROGRAM8h30 or 14h00: Meeting at the Hotel Lobby.8h30 – 9h00 or 14h00 - 14h30: Presentations and introduction to the tour.09h00 - 11h30 or 14h30 - 17h00: Observation of Fauna and Flora in the valley of the “Ribeira de Cabanos”11h30 - 13h00 or 17h00 - 18h30: Observation of Fauna and Flora in the highlands of “Casais do Paúl”.

The Program includes: Personal Accident Insurance; Snack Box; Transport in minibus or van; Tour Guided by an Ornithologist Professional, Doctorate in Ecology and Biosystematics.

The paths are of reduced difficulty and participants should bring along: practical clothing and shoes, hats and optionally: binoculars, camera with macro, manual of butterflies, birds and orchids.

Remark 1: A minimum of 6 persons is required to run the Program that can take place between March and October.
